Fog Lights

I have a 2006 SE
I have wires where the factory fogligts would go. If I hook up fog lights to those wires, will they come on with the headlights without adding any switches? Also, if I get an aftermarket kit, what kind of connector do I need to just "plug and play"?

Re: Fog Lights

If you get the factory (OEM) fog lights set it come with a new headlight stalk that include the foglight switch. If you get aftermarket you need to run new wire because it will not work if you don't have the right headlight stalk. (Fog light is control through the BCM).

Re: Fog Lights

So what will happen if I hook the fog lights to the wire harness that is on the hole cutouts and turn the headlights on?

In the absence of the switch or wiring modifications, the foglights will not illuminate.

Re: Fog Lights

sounds like bbfanz is saying they are prewired in the vehicle to the control module but you will need the turn signal lever replaced to activate them. I'm interested here because my SE did not have foglights and I'd like to add them.

Re: Fog Lights

can the wires that come up the stalk somehow be combined with the parking lights? so they will come on with the parking lights?

Re: Fog Lights

Ya guys, unfortunately there is no way of achieving this without the new stalk. The foglights are BCM controlled. Your best bet with the least amount of work would be to look at one of this website supporting vendors and purchase a factory fog light kit. Very easy install.

Re: Fog Lights

There are no wires that come up to the stalk. It is a data cable. This has been thoroughly discussed in these forums.

Re: Fog Lights

Is the stalk hard to swap out? I'd like to go that route. I'll look around for previous posts on the subject

Re: Fog Lights

ok I found a link in a reply by bbfanz in another post which gives me a link to buy them and how to install them

doesn't look to bad to add for a DIY'er

was going to post the link, but the board says I can't post links to other sites until I have 15 posts or more.. rules are rules..

Re: Fog Lights

there is 2 wires that come out off the headlghts stalk, these are for the foglights switch. They are connected to the BCM. What i did was cut these wires and used it to throw a relay. My fog come on w/ my parking lights now n I can turn the fog on/off with the switch on the headlight stalk. Another way to have fogs on w/ parking is the Misery Tom jumper mod.

Re: Fog Lights

I have to let you guys know. I have an 04 kc 4x4 with the driving lights, and they are barely noticeable. I would not go to a lot of trouble to add them, unless you just want the look. I think aftermarket setups would make you guys happier.

Re: Fog Lights

Fog Lights add to the frontal view of the truck, but as fog lights, they are totally ineffective.

In order for fog lights to work properly, the headlights/parkinglights need to be off, and the fogs need amber bulbs for optimim effectiveness.
