Talking My NEW HID FOGs 6000K

I finally got the Fog lights to go along with the low beams...now if only they made some High beams that actually would turn on real quick and not have to heat up...whats that all about? My friends 06 maxima has the high beam HIDs and they click and hummmm but turn on real bright and dont even have to heat up...theyre awesome...are they like special or something? why do these have to heat up...and acually here low beams also have to heat up...ANYWAY, back to my Fogs...lol

here they are...

OH and I got a question...I never had this problem before nor with my low beams (HID)...while my fig light HIDs are on and I put my truck into reverse...causing my reverse camera to turn on....I get lines like of static on my screen...only of the reverse camera...when I turn off the fogs...it goes away...Like a dvd getting played or anything like that wont get any static, just when I have the truck in reverse and the reverse camera is on AND the fogs on at the same time...anyway to fix this?? whats causing it?

Re: My NEW HID FOGs 6000K

Come on... Give us the details of the bulbs, price, etc. Please.

I notice the low beam HIDs cause the long range FM stereo reception to have some extra static. I can pick up a station 70 miles away with the HIDs off but when they're on the station is all full of static. I guess it's a frequency thing.

WELL, I had heard of that BUT I dont have problems like that...BUT NOW with these fog lights (even with just the lows on no problem) it like interferes with my reverse camera only...

bulbs are 6000K 880/881 straight plug bulbs...

Re: My NEW HID FOGs 6000K

Looks good man thanks for posting this! Looks like zipties are the easy way to go for the fogs.

Did you get a diffent color for the fogs (are they both 6000K looks like some variation?
Were they a direct plug and play fit?

I had similar problems with the HID's on my ATV only I don't hear any interfearance (no radio lol) it simply voltage spikes and kills my expensive LED's.

I have been researching on a solution for over a year but need an oscilliscope to have a definate answer. This is where better ballasts and larger batteries come into play. Was this another set of china HIDs? it could very well be that this set is not as good as your first set (the balasts anyways). Again the reason I am purchasing the more expensive ones... Cheaper balasts often have issues such as what you are describing.

You could try unpluging each balast one at a time and see if only one of them is the culprit.

Another possibility is that the stock battery simply can't filter out the spikes caused by the HID balasts. Upgrading the battery to something better may solve the problem. There is no way to turn the fogs on without the Lowes typicaly, but what you could do it unplug the Low beam HID's and turn on the fogs and see if you still have the problem. (if the fogs still won't turn on without the Lowes working plug back in the Halogens real quick.) See if the problem goes away, if it does it is likely the battery just isn't able to filter out all the spikes. Not sure if a Cap would help, but it might. Typicaly the vehicles battery works as a power filter against high voltage high frequency spikes.

Another solution (which I have not tried yet) is to one of those automotive noise filters from crutchfield, they block high frequency voltage spikes. I just purchased one to see if it will stop the spikes from killing my Luxeon 3 watt LED's I have on my ATV, but I have not hooked it up yet. The battery on the ATV is small but there isn't alot of upgrade options without welding up a new box and forking over alot of cash, and it is only used to power the HID's and lighting. People tell me the small battery is MOST likely the problem but the filter may be a work around. It is worth a shot. Your best bet may be to buy 2 of them and run the Low beam HID's off of those, or just get one for your LCD, I'm not sure. I would try to identify the problem first.

ANOTHER solution may be to ground the HID's right to the frame. Most HID's recomend that the balasts are grounded with as short a distance as possiible. I doubt the factory wiring is ideal, but it may be fine.

ANOTHER recomendation is to twist the wire pairs to stop the high voltage, high frequency spikes. (I have my doubts on this one but it is used in audio cables to reduce noise so it may work!).

If you decide to give any of these things a try please let me know what works as I'm sick of poping the LED's on my ATV. Luxeons get expensive fast! LED's burn up easy, especialy luxeons as they are very sensitive diods so they are always the first thing to go.

Hope this helps,
Justintox

Re: My NEW HID FOGs 6000K

I was wanting to try that noise filter...where would that be installed though? inline I suppose but inline of what? Would be in my reverse camera RCA cables or connected to the HIDs?

I believe you could do it either way, crutchfield has online support you can ask them. you could definately put it inline with the LCD it is very simple to hook up actualy this would solve the problem for only the LCD for the reverse camera. You could also try re-grounding the reverse camera fist. But putting it inline with the source of the problem would be betterif possible since it would eliminate the issue with everything else.

on my ATV I'm not putting it inline with the HID's but inline with the LED's to save them. But on the ATV it is easier this way since it is not as complex as a truck.

All HID's have to go through a cycle to turn on. This is why LED and Halogen still have their places. The ones with better ballasts may turn on faster though, the JDM ones I got Flash once and get to full brightness in a matter of seconds, the ones on my ATV flash multiple times untill they are warmed up, but they draw constant current (most HID's pull ALOT of current at startup) It would be easier on the battery for example if you turn on highs, let them warm up and then turn on the lowes.)

I just ordered another set of the JDM HID's for my fogs, I splurged again, but 260 shipped is not all that bad compared to other Kits made in japan. The same dealer had the Straight pin 881 for the fogs.

I like the ziptie idea, but I'm wondering if I could ziptie both ballasts together using the holders which are screw in mountable and decent and then velcro them to the tray, or if the wire run would be too long. I'll figure something out when they get here next week.

well I have em mounted down if u look close with the mounting brackets but then just held snug with the zip ties...

Re: My NEW HID FOGs 6000K

pi3yeargrad, I just got my JDM HID foglights Straight 881 style.

The bulbs look like they will fit fine but my problem is that the plug from the foglights does not fit in the ballast.. So I cannot power the ballasts. How did you get around this? The fog light plugs are quite a bit smaller than the headlight plugs. The only thing I can think of is to cut the stock plug off and crimp on some bullets (the Ballasts came with an extra connector that fits in the power plug but with only wires on the end coming out of it... but I really did not want to have to hack off the plugs...

I srapped my whol einstall and put everything back together. I didn't want to install them where you did because I offroad and don't want to have to worry about dunking them in the water.

shoot, ull br pretty deep in water if u dunk those...theyre right under the shelf pretty much that the low beams are except theyre vertical....I guess u might lose 3 more inches about since they are up and down...

anyway I dont know how the JDM lights are but U shouldnt have to hack at the Titan stuff, if anything u can buy some sort of adaptor (u can ask JDM he might have something thatll work) if not just splice the wires from the HIDs and they sell reverse plugs thatll fit our stock stuff....just cut what it came with, tie it in and plug...
