Chrome+Winter?

I was thinking about getting this wheel pretty soon, butfor me winter is coming up and in minnesota they use a lot of salt and I dont want my investment to get ruined over the winter, but I still wanna be stylin through the winter. Anybody got some advice/tricks for chrome during the winter?

Re: Chrome+Winter?

There is pretty much nothing you can do. I worked a winter in Rochester, NY, where they also use salt. My rims were trashed by the end of winter, luckily they were under warranty and I received new ones. I washed my truck twice a week, cleaned and polished my wheels EVERY day, sometimes even after everytime I drove down the road! I would drive to work, clean my wheels, drive home, clean my wheels...etc. It got very old and tiresome, especially in -degree weather! But they still were trashed out by April. Sorry.

Re: Chrome+Winter?

Funny you say you worked in Rochester Ny! I am originally from Greece which is the town north of there. Saying they use salt for the roads is an understatement! Man I used to think the streets were paves white with all the salt they use there. And one winter I believe in 93 my car was swallowed by a snow drift! I'll take New England Winter over that Lake effect any day.

Re: Chrome+Winter?

I worked in Rochester at the UofR Cancer Center, but lived in Greece! My company had me staying in the Carriage Glen apartments on Bridgetown Dr. Rochester is a very interesting town. We really enjoyed being there and made quite a few friends, but you are correct, there is nothing conservative about their salt use!

Re: Chrome+Winter?

Not a problem in Texas but if I were in your shoes I'd use it as an excuse to get some of those Teflon wheels they are selling now

Re: Chrome+Winter?

Yeah I liked growing up out there. I can not believe all the retail that has popped up everywhere. And I never realized how slow everyone drives.
My Wife wants to move out that way and I can see the charge card bill now. She also thinks the people are nicer out there. I think it is safer to stay where we are .

Re: Chrome+Winter?

not a big deal.

getting back on topic, they say for this wheel it is a machined lip when the chrome one says chrome plated aluminum wheel, is this different? I know one of my friends just got black wheels with a polished silver lip and he doesnt have to take them off for the winter, what about these ones?
