Tips/tricks to removing grill?

hey guys, i'm new to the forum & i just bought a billet grill for the Titan, running into some problems w/the install:

how the freak do you remove the grill? i have a bolt on grill that's giving me some problems w/install. if i can take off the old one it will be a lot easier (big hands).

any pics ya'll have would be sweet. i've done searches but haven't found too much info, other than the fact that many of you have removed the grill in order to put a new one on...

Thanks in advance!

Re: Tips/tricks to removing grill?

the grill has twist off fastners, but to put back on you have to install the fastners on the grill then install on truck. heres a pic from the titan manual

Re: Tips/tricks to removing grill?

patience... look at the diagram above. I got really frustrated with mine but after it was done I think it would be a piece of a cake to install one now.

The lower grille is more of a pain so hopefully you didnt get that one. Nuts are a PIA to reach and you mentioned you had big hands so I would find someone with smaller ones who could help.

Not much for advice on removing cept to be patient.. sorry and good luck

Just use four zipties for the bottom piece. Once you get the grille off, install the bottom piece with the zip ties, then mod your license plate bracket so it will fit on there if you want to, then get your license plate thing on, then do the top, and put it back in. You have to put those clips on the grille before you put it back on, and you have to put them on from behind the grill, then twist it 1/4 turn to get it in, then just pop the grille back in. Give it patience, it took me a while to figure it out. You need a REALLY long screwdriver to get the bottom three clips off the grille. Search the forum too, there is a good write-up. Don't bother trying to install the bottom grille with anything but the zipties. It's not worth it. It took me 5 minutes to install it with the zipties, and it is snug. Use the bolts and brackets for the top pieces though.

Re: Tips/tricks to removing grill?

AgTitan, is your 25% tint completely matched to the two rear passenger windows? i got mine tinted today at 35% but it looks pretty gay as it's lighter than the rear pass windows. i may just have the four windows all redone at 20%...

My tint doesn't completely match the rear two windows, but it's pretty close. 20% would definitely look sweet. Just check your state laws on tinting - 25% was the lowest I could go in TX (legally)

If you need some more help tomorrow, just shoot me a PM. It's really easy once you figure out how to get it off. You really need the LONG screwdriver to get the 3 off on the bottom. The 4 on top are really easy. Just turn the screw 1/4 way to the left. Once all 7 are off, just pull on each side of the grille until it comes out. I would say it won't take you more than an hour to do it as long as you quickly figure out how to get the grille off. Make sure you do that bottom piece with the zipties before you put the grille back on. Make sure you know how to get that grill back on correctly...Its tricky..You gotta take all the clips out from the truck then snap them back into the grille (that you just removed) and you have to it from the back of the grille..dont just snap them in from the front because it wont work.

Re: Tips/tricks to removing grill?

aaight, i got it installed. i actually ended up not taking off the grill; just got my wife to stick her wee hands behind there & get the wingnuts on the two sides of the grill. each side is supposed to have 4 bolts, but i just did the two we could reach and then used a ziptie on each far side. good call on the zip ties for the lower grill erik, that was definitely a lifesaver! i'll post pics within the hour...
