Westin Chrome Ovals vs. Platinum Series

I want to get the chrome step bars for my new titan CC.

I am leaning towards the Westins as I prefer they way the look over the others (i.e. Nasta). So I am torn between getting the Westin Platinum Series or paying the premium to get the Westin Chrome Ovals. The big difference is that the Platinum Series are Stainless Steel and the Ovals are Aluminum. I know Aluminum will not rust, but how does Chrome hold up on it? Both models have a lifetime warrantee from Westin.

Anyone have either set? Would you get it again?

Re: Westin Chrome Ovals vs. Platinum Series

I bought Platinum series because they are chromed stainless. Basically bullet proof for any kind of environment. It rains alot here so I didn't want any issues with the chrome discoloring.

Re: Westin Chrome Ovals vs. Platinum Series

I was talking to my local shop about both of theses last wk. He flat out told me NOT to consider the oval series because they are on hold because of a class action law suit for the finish failing on virtually all of them. He recc the platinum series. Just what I was told. Joe

The platinum is a great set. I just put them on my titan CC a few months ago. They were easy to install and look like a very good and durable product.

Re: Westin Chrome Ovals vs. Platinum Series

I put the Westin powdercoated ovals on mine. I liked the overall looks and did not want chrome.

As a materials guy, I question if these are polished stainless (which would look like chrome) or chromed-over stainless... If they were having chrome issues on the aluminum, they would have chrome issues on the stainless. There really is no reason to chrome stainless... then again, I don't work for Westin...

Re: Westin Chrome Ovals vs. Platinum Series

Well, after much shopping around, I wound up ordering a new set of OEM Nissan Crew Cab Nerf Bars for $290 shipped with insurance (from Ebay).

I couldn't justify spending the extra money for the Westin Chrome Platinum (about $40 after $20 rebate) or the Westin Chrome Oval (about $95). I am sure I am going to regret it since I do like the Chrome, but much prefer the wider step of the Ovals. I probably would have spent the extra $$$ on the Chrome Ovals Aluminum if I could have found a set that people recommended. I wanted to stay with Aluminum as even Stainless Steel will rusts.

Thanks for everyone's input!
