Re: Helpfull hints and tips for installing backflip?

Great choice! Easy install, have someone give you a hand. Don't let the rub ber seals rub the ground or you may tear one a little. It goes together like the instructions show. Go to hardware store and replace the 2 bolts with Stainess Steel so no rust will form.

I modded mine by removing the 6 clamps and using SS Pop rivets (1/8" dia.) about 4" from end at tailgate, then every 12", doubled at the point where the piston attaches. A little touchup Black paint pen will help hide the shiney rivets for a super clean install.

What size are the bolts and washers? I'd like to get 'em before the cover arrives so there is no delay in getting to work.
Is there a tool list for the install? The website does not tell me what I will need.

Do you have any pictures of install with the rivets? I'd like to see exactly where you placed them and how they look if possible. Thanks!

Pics will be up on Sunday night. Thanks for asking.

I don't know size of bolts, either 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8. I went to ACE and replaced them in the parking lot moments after buying the new bolts. It is too easy to change to worry about buying ahead of time. Just install, make sure it all works well, then "test drive the latest mod" down to the hardware store and change it there. Just 2 bolts.

Every Mod needs a little test drive. lol

UPDATE: Sorry Grizzlymudder, didn't mean to skip you. A "BakFlip" is a flipup sectional hard ABS Bedcover. Mine has a short mount piece at the front, then 3 sections that fold up to gain access to the bed. It unlatches from the backedge which is covered by the tailgate, providing good security without additional locks. Remember, the Titan has a locking tailgate already. The BakFlip fits lowprofile, inside the bed a bit. I have OEM Bedrails on my Titan with no interference. Google for it, I got mine at autoanything.

Re: Helpfull hints and tips for installing backflip?

Here's some pics of my Rivets. I still need to paint them Black with a PaintPen.

It is difficult to fit the rivet gun into the tight space, down low enough, and get the rivets as flush as I would like. Most came out good. Well worth doing. Feel underneath the plastic bed cap and notice the true height of the steel bed. It is a narrow vertical lip that Nissan has here, but is enough to successfully get rid of those ugly clamps.

After painting, it will all look like it belongs there. I even removed the 3 flip up sections for a few minutes, and riveted the front stationary portion of the frame work to creat a better seal. It sits flush to the bed top, instead of a 1/8" above at parts. I will next, add a bead of black RTV Silicone to create a watertight seal all around.
