Advance Cover / K Cover Questions

For those of you that have an Advance Cover / K Cover I have a few questions.

1) How many keys does it come with? Is it easy to get extra's from the company if needed?

2) If I lower the tailgate can I release the cover without the keys?

3) Do you have to re-lock with the keys or can you open it and then have it lock when you close it?

I am kind of torn between this cover and the Bakflip. I'm not too excited about having to flip my rails for the bakflip and it looks like the 12-volt outlet would get blocked if I did so. On the advance I'm not to excited about the possibility of extra keys but it looks easier to install, perhaps a bit more water tight, and has the flexibility to access from front or rear.

really like the bakflip~flippin the rails wasn't so bad, and it actually didn't cover the 12-volt. check out the pics if ya want:

How did you get the bolts out. I bought the torx head yesterday and applied some pressure with a screwdriver yesterday to a couple and they didn't budge.

Are you all using a drill to get these out? Someone mentioned using heat but I am concerned about damage to the spray in liner?

Home depot had a tool by husky that you strike with a hammer that is supposed to supply up to 200lbs of torque, I can't remember what it was called?

If I can get the rails flipped I might go with the bakflip, but I'm not ordering one until I've done that, otherwise I'll go with the Advance. Any hints appreciated.

I have to flip all 4 (2 per side) right?

Thanks,

My Advance Cover came with two keys, I'm sure you can get extras if needed.

2) If I lower the tailgate can I release the cover without the keys?
NO, it's a dead lock type mechanism.

3) Do you have to re-lock with the keys or can you open it and then have it lock when you close it?
You have to lock and unlock with key, if it's unlock it stay unlock till you lock it and vice versa.

With the Advance Cover, you can open at either end.

yup, gotta flip all four. all i did was get the hex-tip-drill-socket-wrench-thingymajig and i started off with a socket wrench to loosen the bolts, followed by my battery powered screwdriver to speed things up. i didn't have any real trouble getting the bolts out, but i know some people on the forum have, and it's nothing that prevented them from using the cover.
one word of advice: get the solid hex attachment, not the hollow tipped version. i broke a hollow-tipped hex after 5 or 6 bolts and had to go back to autozone. not a big deal. i'm totally happy with it and it's waterproof ability~right now i have stuff in the bed that i'm just gonna leave there until i go to UT next week rather than move it twice. this is the best truck accessory i've gotten yet.

Re: Advance Cover / K Cover Questions

Thank you both for the information. At first I was leaning towards the Bakflip, then last night I thought I might go Advance, now I am leaning towards the Bakflip again.

I really don't want more keys to mess with and like the idea of the bakflip just locking when you close it and releasing by opening the tailgate. I had an undercover on my 2004 titan and while it was a nice cover I found it a pain to have to constantly lock and unlock, especially since you had to do so on both sides if you really wanted it secure, at least the Advance is only 1 lock for the back (and front if you need it but I can't see needing to do both) It's a tough decision because they both sound really good and they both seem to cost about the same. There are a few things I like about each and that is probably why I am so close to 50/50 on the two of them.

I need to find some time to try the bolts again and will try a socket wrench and possibly the tool I saw at home depot to get them started. If all goes well I will probably order the bakflip in Dec.

Re: Advance Cover / K Cover Questions

cool~i mean i'm obviously biased cuz i have the bakflip & never tried the advance, but i'm totally happy with it and you prolly will be too.
the ultimate test for mine is going to be how well it holds up over the winter here in ID...guess we'll see! i'm not worried about it.
