Spare ECU?

I can get a used ECU, for an 05 Titan, cheap. I'm thinking about swapping it with my OEM unit, so I can send the OEM unit to UpRev to get flashed.

Will any 05 Titan ECU work on my 05 XE?

What is the worst that can happen if they are not interchangeable?

If the ECU is fairly universal, maybe we could start an ECU loaner program for those members who can't be without their Titan as a daily driver.

Re: Spare ECU?

ECU will run around $550. The ECUs are different based on year and model such as big tow, off road or both.

I found a used ECU for $130.

My truck is an XE and doesn't have any options. So if I swap in an ECU that has the Big Tow and other options, would that hurt anything?

I was talking with Jared at UpRev, and they may be coming to Delaware the first of next year for a dyno/tune session.

Re: Spare ECU?

Yeah thats what I hear too. Chicks is putting it together. She will need atleast 6 confirmed trucks and I think she has 4 right now. From what I read she is shooting for securing a shop in Philadelphia. Might wanna PM her if you guys are interested. They will be splitting the dyno shop price between all the trucks. So basicly it will be the flash and your dyno time just like if you were in Texas. Now is the time to get all your performance mods on before the tune.

I dont think that the spare ECU will work. To me it is taking too big of a risk. $130 for the ECU and then $500 on top of that for the 3 map flash. you are al ready up to $650. You should be able to have your truck custom tuned for just a little more than that!

Re: Spare ECU?

Well, I think the idea of buying a used ECU is out of the question because it won't recognize my key. I can go to the dealer to fix this, but that's more hassle and money.

This is from Jared at UpRev. He thought I was going to send in the used ECU rather than my factory ECU. However, his information still applies.

Quote:
The ECUs do vary from trim to trim. You need to get one that matches your options. The options that make a difference are BigTow package, VDC, 2wd VS 4x4, and flex fuel VS standard petrol. We have had some luck running software off a big tow ECU on a non big tow, but so far that is the only option we’ve found to be interchangeable. We’d be willing to try to mix and match others, but w/o your truck right in front of us for testing we couldn’t fix any issues, so I don’t think we should try it on a mail in. Also consider that if you send us a used ECU you will have to take it to the dealer the get your keys remarried to the ECU/BCM. If you send us the one that is running in your truck then it will not have to be remarried after you get it back. Also if you get a brand new ECU (virgin) from Nissan then it will not have to be married either. Virgin ECUs marry to the first key that is used on them.
