DEI 556u help

I see a lot of people have used a DEI 556u interface module. The manual shows three methods for installing it. The standard method uses the loop antenna but the manual requires it to be mounted in front of the factory transponder ring. Since the factory ring is flush with the face of the ignition lock, it would be impossible to mount the DEI antenna loop in front of it. Will it work mounted behind the factory loop? The alternate methods wire the interface directly into the factory transponder ring, and are a much cleaner install, but the manual is a little vague on whether it will work on which vehicles. Anybody have some experience to pass on?

Thanks,
MT

Re: DEI 556u help

mine is looped around the grommet and you can barely tell it is no longer flush.

Re: DEI 556u help

it needs to go on the ignition ring but under the plastic cover and grommet. you can't even tell it's there after everything is tightened down.

Re: DEI 556u help

Thanks for the help. I ended up putting it around the grommet, but behind the plastic trim piece that the grommet goes through, kind of holds the grommet into the plastic trim piece. At any rate, it seems to work as it is supposed to.

Thanks,
MT
