HID install in HALO projectors

Okey guys I am really having a thought to get HID's installed into those projector headlights with angel eyes=). There are two things that stop me! First, on the healight it sais "No HID". Second one - Did any of ou guys installed HID's in those lights? If yes, does it melt? or you absolutely have no problems with it what so ever?

Re: HID install in HALO projectors

ok i really want to install these lights! my only problem is i have already installed a HID set-up in my truck. now my issue is what bulb does the new light take? is it the 9006 like the stock unit? the 10,000 watt HID kit i installed runs much cooler then the OEM lights so i cant see them melting. they probably say "no hid" because they would be really bright.

To answer your question however, it depends on the housings. The housing might be for 9006 bulbs and they might not, you need to check with whoever is selling them if it isn't listed.

As far as working with HID, while it's true they are cooler, there are two problems you might run into:

1. HIDs can be longer than their halogen counterparts so fit MIGHT be an issue, which leads to:

2. The lenses are based on a focal point and I guarantee it will be different between the halogen it was designed for and an HID bulb. You might get away with it, might not. I have frequently read that you might get worse performance out of sticking an HID in front of a lens designed for halogen than if you just put it into the stock reflector (which also gives you worse performance than using a true HID setup). I've also seen people do it and it looked really good and created a fairly nice cutoff.

Re: HID install in HALO projectors

Ok, I have this done. I have the projector setup with the HID conversion in. The bulb switches to an H1. You can use the same ballast for you HID's, just buy the new bulbs. They fit fine. They are bright. I have the 10,000K kit installed in them and I gotta say, its nice. I want the 6,000k kit just because I want a whiter light now. The 10,000k color is getting old to me now. Check the for sale forum for details on that sale.

Re: HID install in HALO projectors

Hmm. so it seams like that it is a good idea to replace the lens as well, not only get the HID kit

Re: HID install in HALO projectors

Also, they will NOT melt the housings. HID's run cooler than halogen bulbs. So, despite the fact that they are brighter, they put off less heat, and draw less power.

Re: HID install in HALO projectors

Those lights look pretty cool but angel eyes would look stupid with HID white and yellow eyes.

Might have to get those Luxeon 2 watt or 3 watt dropin to match (another $100)

From the linked mod they doo appear to perform well with HID's in them, but I know for sure that if I buy another set of headlights it had better not say NO HID on it. If you get pulled over by a cop thats makes it pretty obvious that you have something in there that should not be in there. Needless to say a tow and confiscation of your new lights would not be fun.

I do like the look of the projector lights, and don't really care to make my headlights any brighter than the stock ones with HID's in them. (Thats what my HID Foglights are for LOL) I swear my foglights are brighter than my headlights anyways.
