ouch! - y'all right - there's waaaayyy too much dependency on the rear sensors.

Yep - its money we'd rather go to other truck stuff - than fixing what wasn't broke a few days ago..

The only thing I'll use my rear sonar for is when backing into a parking spot. I'll always look behind me and around me for other situations.

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

The back up sensors work great if you are about to hit something HUGE!!! I backed up and hit a handicap pole. I know I prolly shouldn't have been in that spot but I was at work dropping off some stuff at the office. 5 minutes in and out that was it. I ruined the rest of the day...

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

makes me regret getting gas at Shell!

joking aside - I typically use my rear view and look over my shoulder - but I've become dependent on hearing the beeps to warn me from the rear of the truck.

54warrior asked earlier whether or not side steps would've helped. At the angle I crunched the side - I would've loved to have the bars take the hit (possibly creating more noise), the door and the frame didn't make the typical "tink" sound while being compressed - I had my window up - and oh yeah..

the radio cranked!

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

ouch! you know, i did the same (just on a rock wall) shortly after i got the truck. the steps saved me and i eventually bondoed and painted the scratched one (it was bad..). Can't tell now it was ever scraped. I just cringe to think what would have happened had i not had them. Likely worse than yours because it would have been higher.

ouch, both of those sets of pics look painful... If that ever happens to me, I'd cry for an hour, then call my insurance company and start my claim... even if it's my own fault, I pay so they fix (minus my deductible)

Exactly what I did. I called Allstate and explained that a telephone pole jumped out behind me while backing up. The lady actually asked me if the pole was o.k. and I'm pretty sure she was serious.

Red face Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

This truck has humbled me as I thought I was a careful driver and then whack-I backed into something. (the side of a gate!)

Misery loves company and I must say-thanks for sharing the pictures. It hurt looking at them!

I wonder how one could place those aftermarket sensors and if that would work...

that was probably a serious question... when I totalled my 99 Tacoma, I broke not one, not two, but three telephone poles... cracked the base of the first, and completely snapped the following two... one telephone pole in CA costs roiughly $2300+, that was what my insurance person told me PG&E charged... luckily I was found 40% at fault, where as the Mitsu Eclipse that side swiped me took the remainder 60% fault and paid for the poles, my totaled truck, tow, and 2 wks. rental until I got my new truck...

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

yep bigjimbo - you can count me as one of the doufs that smacked the posts - and the posts won..

I considered the insurance route; the quote came out to $2500 ($500 deduc vs. $1500 cash) - I chose cash - since I didn't want the upcharge on my insurance at renewal.

Had the ins claim been higher - def would have had them take the "hit" (ha ha)

As an update - the shop has already smoothed out alot of the damage - it's in the paint room, as part of the $1500 - they're going to smooth out some of the dings on the truck - and debadge . Funny thing, - the badge adhesive wasn't coming off!! They're having a hell of a time with it - but what has been removed - the truck looks clean.

I'm not rushing them, on the upside - the truck should look sick, cherry, swell, cool, great - whatever - once I get it back Monday, fixed and debadged. Looked into powder coated NFab's in K11 color that would match the truck - can't get them for at least a month, though..

driving a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe rental , which, er , isn't my cup of tea - but it's got XM radio!!

Compared to others - what I'm spending to fix doesn't sound so bad after all!!

What a coincidence, when I was getting my telephone pole damage fixed I also had them debadge the tailgate, take off the 4x4 stickers and paint the storage box latch and surround to match the truck.

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

my story is even lamer but the damage not so bad.....

i came back from lunch, parked my truck and shut it off.... i open my door to hop out with lunch in tow and realize i'm rolling. i find this to be odd, so i hop in and hit the brake, just a second after i drifted forward into my co-workers dodge ram bumper.... apparently i left my truck in gear.

i tell people some one with a trailer hitch backed into me

when it gets warmer i'll see about getting the dent out myself. shouldn't be too difficult.

the box latch looks GREAT - I might get them to do that as well - if they've got the time!!
