Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

My Dad whacked the rear corner of his truck cab years ago in his Ford Supercab while backing it up. Didn't see that fire hydrant. Oops.

I watch my mirrors very closely when making the turn in the DD drivethru as well. My driver's rear quarter gets pretty close to the building so my right front doesn't clip the fence around the electrical transformer. These trucks can be a challenge to maneuver sometimes.....

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

my fault - I was depending on:

the backup sensor
BT mirror

the Shell Station bollards - like an upside "U" were freshly painted white (the faded yellow underneath -duh!). Pump station islands - white - asphalt around pump stations -white. I cut the turn too close - I had started to backup - looked at my mirrors - saw WHITE - figured I was clear..

the most expensive tank of gas I ever purchased...

I just took it to the shop - $1500 or so since it all cutting, welding, reshaping, repaint, blah blah blah..

I suppose it could have been worse - don't know how though.

The gas attendant (poor guy) had the brass cajones to come up - and say "...that sucks!"

Needless to say - I told him where to go - I never get pissed - I'm bummed because I HAD just starting looking for Step Bars - black or smoke grey in color - to prevent the very thing that occurred!!

Word from me - DON"T depend so much on the sensors and mirrors!!

I don't really know that a set of steps would have helped? Maybe it's just the angle that I'm imagining things though.

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

You could bypass the steps and lift it high enough it wouldn't hit !

That does suck though...it's almost worse when it's not somebody else's fault, I know, I've been there.
Don't beat yourself up too bad though. It'll hurt the wallet a bit now, but won't last too long.

Re: F@#$%^&n Gas Station Bollards! - should'a had a step bar installed..

that sucks. I relyed on my rear sonars backing out of my own driveway and wasnt paying attention and hit a parked van, put a dent in the tailgate. it sucks I know. you learn after that to not just rely on that stuff.

I feel your pain man! I went for a little bigger game myself. I bagged me a telephone pole! (and I have the rear sonar....) about $2300 in damage.
