What is that thing?

Now I know what my wife means when she says I don't pay attention...

I've had my truck over a year...and just today...noticed this little device mounted above my rear-view mirror. It's mounted to the windshield just to the left of the wiretrack for the mirror. It kind of looks like a Bluetooth earpiece and it has a small button. I think the emblem on it is a phone. But, I really can't tell.

Does anyone know what it is? I tried finding a reference to it in the owner's manual...but no information was in there about it.

Not sure what it is, but a pic would help to figure it out.

Re: What is that thing?

HS operatives are highly trained in surveillance methods, among these is what is called "prolonged static surveillance”, and may use sophisticated surveillance techniques that are difficult to detect. Have you or any of your associates displayed unusual or persistent interest in security personnel, access controls, or perimeters such as fences or walls? Have you had any anonymous telephone or e-mail threats, which could be a way of testing reaction. Have you downloaded any pornographic material or displayed symptoms of other technopathologies or disordered behaviors linked to computer technology. Keep an eye out for teams of two or three people doing surveillance together on foot, as well as mobile methods including scooters, bicycles, cars and trucks, boats and even small aircraft. If you see any black helicopters while driving, immediately ditch the Titan and attempt escape on foot.

Wow! Are you the one following me? Everything you mentioned has happened.

I'll bet my son's "supposedly" 11-year old friends are really government operatives in their 30s and are trying to gather intel on me. I'm going to go flatten their bycycle tires right now. That way they won't be able to catch me as I make my escape, running and yelling obscenities down the middle of my neighborhood street...

Hopefully, I'll make it to work tomorrow. The local traffic copter (it's black!) will probably follow me too!

Oh....wait...never mind. It's a joke, right?

Re: What is that thing?

First I've heard of anything like that. Did you buy new or use? Pictures would help.

I bought it new...It came with a dealer installed Eclipse DVD GPS Stereo. But, it was not equipped with Bluetooth. So, I'm at a loss regarding what this thing actually is.

It sure looks like a phone mic.

Is the GPS voice activated in any way?

No...not that I'm aware of. I'll look in the exclipse book to see if this is part of the accessory package. But, that really wouldn't make sense. It does not have BLuetooth (wish it did though).

Maybe I'll swing by a car audio/electronics place and ask what they think it is.

I'm sure some 17 year old kid that speaks like a surfer and has dreadlocks will be able to tell me what it is, where it was made, how many milliamps it draws and what the frequency range is.

Amen to that. And if that kid comes by, can you have him come by my place and reprogram my remotes?

Only Bill Gates can do that. He's not available. I tried.

Eh, he could only have done it by installing Vista on all of the remotes and it's not reliable enough yet anyway.

So going on the theory it's a mic (and it sounds like that's what you believe it to be) what else could a mic be for?

Re: What is that thing?

I'll bet you anything it is the GPS antennae. You can buy antennae extensions for any sort of handheld GPS and all internal units need to have an antennae somewhere in the line of site of clear sky. Is it about 1.5-2 times the size of a stamp? If so, it's probably the for the GPS.

Now that's what it could be...My system is Sirius ready. But I haven't subscribed.

But...this device has a button on it with phone emblem on it.
