getting my Truetrac later this week and was going to order seals. just wondering what seals i need. I figured Axel seals (part# 43252-7s200)x2, but not sure if i need the Pinion seal (part# 38189-8s100)
I know you can remove the old axel seals but dont want to hassle or mess up. any tips?
Don't quote me but I belive that the seal is on the axle, then the axle bearing is pressed on after that, if so then you have to press the bearings off first to access the seal...but many times the bearing is destroyed in the proccess.
Are your seals leaking, or did you just want to replace them cause you will already have the axles out?

loufish is correct (he does have a pretty good track record)
Installing the TrueTrac involves removing the oem ring gear carrier, unbolting the ring gear from the oem carrier and bolting it back to the TrueTrac. The oem carrier has a bearing on each end. You can either pull those off the oem (which may damage them) and press them onto the TT or buy replacement carrier bearings & races. (this would also facillitate reinstalling the oem carrier if need arises) The installer then installs the TrueTrac back into the rear axle assembly, measures lash with a dial indicator, adjusts the threaded carrier bearing adjusters as needed to get the proper lash. There is no need to mess with the pinion, so you do not need the pinion seal. Also, the Titan modified Dana 44 does not use the typical Dana 44 shims to adjust the carrier bearings, but rather Chrysler style threaded adjusters.
As loufish points out, the axle bearings must be replaced to replace the axle seals. The service manual shows destroying a bearing retainer with a drill & chisel to get the axle bearings off. There are some associated snap rings that you are also supposed to replace.
The service manual states, w/o equivication, that the axle seals must be replaced every time the axle shafts are pulled. Even, so, many people have had the TT installed w/o replacing the axle bearings & seals.
There have been a number of axle seal leak problems not associated with TT installs.
I note that there is no need to pull the differential cover to replace the axle seals & bearings. Thus, if you pull into the dealership and point out the common problem of axle seal leakage, they won't necessarily know that you have installed a TrueTrac. So you would need to be sure to mention this so that they don't mistakenly proceed with a free warranty replacement of the axle seals and bearings.

It sure looks like you could pull the axles without any seal issue, unless there is a sealer on the outside of the seal where it seats inside the axle tube bore.
If that's the case. I'd apply some Permatex #2 on the outside of the seal before re-installing the axle shaft.
This all looks very much like a Ford 9" housing bearing end and axles. We pull those axles out all the time and have never replaced a seal that wasn't already leaking, and have never had leaking problems with the seals used over again.
Are dealers replaceing the seals when they leak(under warranty) or are the replacing the entire rear end? Can you imagine having a axle seal leak, and the dealer doing you a "favor" and replacing the entire rear end....AFTER you went and installed a TrueTrac...
Seems at one time they were replacing the rear end..
I think most guys are replacing the carrier bearings and races. Trying to get the old ones off the factory carrier usually ends up destroying them...
