OEM Air Filter is Oiled?

I picked up a filter today and thought it was in a yellow plastic bag. When I open it up, I see the perimeter and edge folds oiled. The bag is lightly oiled. Looking at my old filter I also see this oil line. Has this always been the case or is this something new?

Definitely interesting!! If that's the case, so much for the oiled filter debate - if Nissan is using oiled filters themselves!

Re: OEM Air Filter is Oiled?

The pleated element part of the Nissan air filters that I bought are oiled & tinted pink, perhaps from the oil?

Re: OEM Air Filter is Oiled?

Well, I went to a different dealer and bought two filters. The bag is clear but the pleats are still yellowed and feel sticky. There is definately some kind of application to the filter paper, heavier on the edges.

From another thread, people have made comments about the bottom edge getting dirtier than the center. I suspect it is because the edges are more yellowed, the gunk hangs onto the particles and shows the dirt more so than in the middle.
