Why is this?

So I've noticed that most car manufacturers put HIDs in a projector beam. The only cars that I can think of seeing an HID in without a projector beam is the old Acura TL and the GMC Jimmy in 2000 or something. Any particular reason? Just curious.

Re: Why is this?

The projector gives a more focused light, it helps provide the nice cutoff line you see on high quality lights.

I never knew a Jimmy had HID from the factory??

Re: Why is this?

I know why you know that.
That's why you now own a Titan.

Re: Why is this?

hid's shining through projectors allow for a beam of light and also allow for a cutoff like mentioned above. Without projectors people will think that the high beams are on. It lights up everything from the side, front, top, and bottom. Notice the "ball of light" look in gucciotc's signature, pretty blinding if you ask me. With the projectors you wont' be blinded unless the beam is pointing right at you.

Re: Why is this?

There's a lot of other cars w/ non-projector HID's. Mostly trucks and SUV's.

Re: Why is this?

hids without projectors = glare

simple. no matter how good the housing

on the other hand, hids in projectors that are badly aimed = whiteout

everything is a tradeoff
