Bed tents don't make a lot of sense to me. The time to set up a bed tent vs a ground tent is about the same. If you have other gear in the bed and plan to sleep in it, the gear comes out. If you want to make a trip back to the nearest town because you forgot ice, the tent comes down, you make your trip, and then set it back up again. If concerned about getting wet with a ground tent, take the heel of your shoe and dig out trenches to divert ground water away from the tent.
IMHO, go with a hard shell topper. You can build a floor above the wheel wells and incorporate floor doors to underside storage, much like on a bass boat. This way you can keep your sleeping arrangements above, yet organize and secure your gear inside the bed.
