Always make sure your tires are at the right pressure, drive with tailgate down, A/C off and you can even tuck your mirrors in on the highway. These are inexpensive ways of getting a couple more MPG's!!!

I have even heard of people puttiin vinyl over the grill and adding an under flow below the bumber??? CRAZY

I've seen reports that claim that the tailgate down actually hurts MPG's in the newer trucks because of something along the lines of it disrupts the bubble affect created by the cab.

I'm no grease monkey however a CAI should increase MPG due to the enhanced performance of the engine. A CAI pushes "colder" air into the engine with contains more oxygen, this allows for greater compression. You aren't going to be injecting more fuel just more oxygen (not more air in general) because we all know that hot air rises thus with colder air you'll get greater compression of fuel to air. Don't look for any miracles, only slight improvements because as you increase the performance of the engine, you are increasing the HP which means the engine doesn't have to work as hard to accomplish the same effect.

I have a K&N CAI and yes it helped by 1-1.5 mpg. My problem is keeping the filter clean in west texas. Also, I think I lost about .5 after having the 2 degree advance.

That said, when I tie on to a trailer it sure does handle it well.

I think that as others have said "in theory". exhaust, CAI etc SHOULD improve gas mileage, unfortunately when you gotta put the foot down all theories go down the drain. If you want a sure fire way to get better MPG, do the "gas pedal mod" it involves finding a nice short piece of 2 x 4 and placing it under the pedal on the right side of the truck, for even better imporvement, change 2 x 4 to 4 x 4. Works wonders!

I don't think that you buy a full sized truck for the gas mileage anyway. But mods to increase horses power do improve gas mileage for the simple reason that your engine is becoming more efficient then it was from the factory. I think you're best bet and gain in MPG would be to get a programmer and tune it, most manufacturers set their fuel maps to run the engine rich, to reduce the chance of knock, and to keep the engine running at a cooler temperature. They can not achieve a perfect tune for every single engine they produce because of the variances during production of the engine components themselves. You can however achieve a good fuel saving tune with the help of a performance shop on your truck.

I have a lot of respect for the guy Cursed Racing, I've seen his truck and what he's done to it. I can't tell you exactly what but I'm sure he'll post. It's sweet except for the fact that it's a Toyota.

i have a solution, buy a civic as a daily driver, and titan for weekend warrior. Its a big heavy truck they all suck in gas. go honda!

Get better gas mileage the simple and easy way like truck drivers are having too. No unnessary engine idleing, slow down on the interstate, keep tire pressures to suggested PSI. Notice on the interstate most trucking companies have cut there trucks speed down(at a savings of up to two MPG), and they now have auxillary power units that runs the a/c and powers the truck so the engine dosen't have to run all night. Allot of time we now carry the Altima instead of the truck, simple way to use less fuel and they are free. If your looking to bolt things on for gas saving try proven thing like the tornado, the maganet that goes on the fuel line, slick 50.......

i second that,can't tell you guys how many ppl come up and ask if the truck eats gas .i just smile tellum not as bad as old school v8s then i tellum you want gas mileage buy a HONDA not a v8.

The Tornado and fuel line magnets are not truly proven and many, many people have said they do not work. There are also many who've said they do and I'm certainly not saying that anyone who believes they work is wrong but the theories behind them just don't make any sense at all if you really look into the technology behind them.

I have a 08' Armada w/ 24's and I get 16.5 MPG. It's a SUV not a sports car lay off the accelerator. Also the theory about more air in the cylinder increasing gas milage isn't necessarily true. The ECM in your engine is programed to maintain the air fuel ratio the same reguardless of the demand on the engine. The reason you can go faster with more air (ie. a turbo charger) is because the more air you can cram into your cylinder the more fuel that's needed, leading to more combustion and more horse power. If you put more air into your engine with out the fuel you will lean out your engine too much and cause damage to your valves and pistons.
