Improving Gas Milage??

Had my Titan since 05' and love it-- I did some modifications -- Pioneer AVIC N2, Soft Cover, Tinted the front windows , recently replaced ( after 60,000) factory tires with BF All Terrian TA's --

I was a little reluctant to do any MODS under the hood-- But i was talking to a fellow truck owner and he had mentioned that a K&N intake and a MOD to the computer can give me an additional 6MPG--

Is this an exagerration?

If not do you reccommend K&N?

And where can i purchase this kit to modify the computer?

Any other tips to gain extra MPG?

Any information is greatly appriciated
Thanks in advance

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

6mpg? If you believe that then I've got a bridge to sell you...

A CAI may help a little, a K&N replacement panel filter won't. Switching to synthetic oil will help increase fuel economy slightly as well.

In the end, it's a truck. Don't expect any miracles.

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

If you did an intake and exhaust and tuned it, maybe even some headers, you could expect to gain around 3mpg at the most... if you drove it like your grandmother would.

But let's be honest, you've got a pair and your gonna drive it like a SOB cause it sounds so freaking good!! Plus, it is priceless to smoke the local ricers from a stoplight. I keep a three liter bottle of Coke in the car with me to show them that is has more displacement than their car engine. (Just kidding, I keep a 2 liter).

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

I think if anyone put an intake/ exhaust or whatever performance mod they want to try and increase even just the little bit of gas mileage prolly got worse gas mileage. Reason being its more of a performance mod than a mpg increaser and if anyone did that and didnt get worse gas mileage may be a little crazi in the head for not atleast attempting to see how much more power there truck got with the mod lol

Put on a lift and 37" tires.

Seriously, I increased just under 2 MPG when I added my CAI and Exhaust even with the heavier foot...however, like everyone else said, they're performance mods, you'll have a tough time with a light foot when they sound so good at WOT.

If you're going to get a CAI, I'd recommend the AEM Brute Force, I love the dry filter and the sound.

Park it and walk. Whatever mods you do to increase mileage aren't going to net you much, if anything at all. Best you can do is keep your foot out of it. That's mileage mod numero uno. There are no miracles here, just common sense.

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

If all you had to do was put a CAI on and do a computer mod Nissan would have done it years ago. They'd love to be able to advertize a 6 mpg increase.

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

Keeping your foot out of it is the only way to help. The 2* Timing Advance helped me lightfoot it a little better but that's been only 1 or maybe 2 MPGs. The K&N Filter has not affected my MPGs at all and I cannot imagine it would unless the old one was dirty and it's just a matter of getting a clean filter in there. FWIW, the AirFlow is restricted a little by the intake tube sticking 1/2 way down into the airbox so the K&N isn't going to help with what's already restricted. I cut the Top 3/4 of that tube out of mine (AirBox Mod) and that opened her up to breath quite a bit better but definitely did not help my MPG's because now I have to romp on it at least once a week for a grin.

Did you get a noticable difference in power or just sound?

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

secondhand knowledge: i was told by the previous owner of my Titan that putting on the Banks and Airaid CAI INCREASED his gas mileage. I can't verify it, but i distinctly remember him saying that the mileage was WORSE before the cart-back and intake mods.

my $0.02

Re: Improving Gas Milage??

I have AEM intake, Stillen exhaust, 2 deg advance, synthetic oil in every part and I'm getting all the way up to 15.6MPG driving 60. I think the .5mpg increase was well worth the $1000's I put into achieving it

Both..... Ya know that sluggishness when romping on it at +60mph???? Well, it's not there anymore.

I laid these down right after cutting the tube out. These tracks were laid with only 2* Timing Advance and Airbox Mod w/ K&N Drop-In on stock Continental tires:
