Just called the dealership for clearification and...

I am ordering HID kits for myself and my buddy, he has an 07 i have an 08. Just to make sure they are both 9006 i called the dealerships parts dept. He asked why my 08 needs new ones and i told him i was doing an HID upgrade, didnt give him my name or vin so hes got no clue who i am. He was like "man if you do that, the heat from the hid will melt the oem headlight assembly". I started laughing cause i have never heard of that and he got pissed and hung up on me. Guess he took that personal, that was a stupid responce though.

Re: Just called the dealership for clearification and...

Yeah.. I haven't heard of any HID's melting stuff.. The fog covers are plastic and sometimes the hotter bulbs distort them, but the headlights? Heck, they are like 5 or 6" from the surface of the lights!

07 takes 9006 in lows, assuming same for 08's.

Re: Just called the dealership for clearification and...

Yeah. 9006. There would be no reason to change them if the headlight design hasn't changed. Besides, the 9006 is used for lowbeams on dozens of vehicles.

Re: Just called the dealership for clearification and...

Just my two cents, but I 'd like to caution you about upgrading to HIDs. I understand that the plastics being used in HIDs is more heat resistant because HID generating considerably more heat may cause other problems as well. Over the short term, heat might be a problem. I can only image that R & D testing has validated the heat resistance required for plastics being used in HIDs v. 9006 bulbs and etc. If you have a melt down of the lens or fire, who are you going to blame, the HIDs, Nissan, or yourself?

Also, you might consider that all wiring, fuses, relays and etc. are designed per vehicle and/or HIDs as well.

Re: Just called the dealership for clearification and...

Interesting.... I just told my local dealership that I changed my bulbs to Silverstar Ultras and he said the same thing... He asked if I increased the wattage. Said the the increased heat would melt the housing.

Leave it to the dealer to say something that stupid. I always feel like the younger, but much smarter brother, when dealing with them.

LOL - That was classic. And so true...

I also found out that the dealer loves when you begin a sentence with "I read on the internet..."
