Differences between sliding bed extenders

Does anyone know the difference between the CC sliding bed extender (999T7-WQ150) and the KC extender (999T7-WQ100)? Both are for the utili-track system Also if anyone can tell me how to use the one I just scored on Craigslist properly (what are the straps for?) I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Differences between sliding bed extenders

CrewCab has a shorter bed, thus closer to the wheel wells, and thus the extender's top bar is shorter.

Actually on the sliding one, the top bar is shorter, as to fit towards the cab side of the bed.

Re: Differences between sliding bed extenders

bbomar explained it perfectly. The CC sliding has the top bars that do not run across the whole extender (they are shorter) so when the extender is slid all the way forward, the wheel wells fit where the bar is short. The KC sliding bed extenders have the bars run the full length of the way.

You can use a CC sliding extender on a KC but you cant use a KC sliding bed extender in a CC as it wont lay flat when slid forward since the bars are not cut out and it will stand on the wheel wells.

You can use either extender if you are using the fixed brackets.

The straps are to secure the extender to the tailgate so it wont bounce around. The little tab goes into the tailgate latch (where the tailgate would lock to the truck if it was closed) on the tailgate.

Re: Differences between sliding bed extenders

Thanks Guys, I understand now and I must have just purchased a CC since the bars are shorter on the top. Lucky because that's just what I wanted - but brand new at $100 I was gonna make it work no matter what!

Thanks for such a quick response.

Re: Differences between sliding bed extenders

That explaination makes sense, except what about the LWB versions? Are the wheel set back further so that the KC version will work?

Just wondering, I have a CC version on the way.

Re: Differences between sliding bed extenders

One additional comment on the straps, on a non sliding version when you properly attach it to the latch opening on the tailgate you can lock the tailgate to keep somebody from lifting it off and stealing it. Of course they can always cut the straps, but it is a deterent anyway.

Which brings me to this question. On a non sliding extender when you lock the tailgate it prevents the extender from tilting up to the 90* position where you can remove it, thus keeping somebody from stealing it.
What prevents somebody from stealing the sliding extender? Seems like you could just slide it forward enough to tilt it up and then steal it.
Just something I've always wondered about.
