Installing after market driving lights - Help

I just bought set of driving lights for my bull bar and was in need of some help. Where is the best place to run wires through the firewall? Also can anyone please tell me how to remove the bezel around the radio? I wanted to put the switch in the accessories switch spots where my tow mode switch is. Also the the wiring instructios have me connect the power lead to the relay and the switch to the high beam power lead. Can some one tell me what color the high beam power lead is? I can use a circuit tester if I have to. Will this only operate the lamps with the high beam? I was thinking of just running them without the relay so I can turn them off and on. Does the relay only keep them from being on when the lights are on?
Thanks
Pete

1. Run the wires through the grommet that behind the steering column. (my switch is also on the accessory spot.)
2. I ran my independently off another power source so I can use my lights whenever I want.
3. The bezel on the radio simply pulls straight out towards you.

I connected to the battery directly with a relay in between.

You can get an OEM rocker or go to Pep Boys and they have all sorts of options.

Re: Installing after market driving lights - Help

Kronos,
Alright, I got the bezel off with some healp from another member. My question is to you is did you connect the battery to both the relay and the switch. I know I have to connect it to the relay and then have another line from a power source like the high beams to the switch. Can I just run another lead from the battery to the switch? The switch is a 30 amp rocker. I don't see why this won't work it just means the lights will always be powered so I have to watch not to leave them on. By routing to a line like the high beam power that means they'll only be on when the high beams are on right?

Yes, if you connect the switch to the high beams, you can only energize the relay trigger when the high beams are on.

You can get a Littlefuse mini-blade add-a-circuit and tap the lighter socket fuse that comes on with the ignition as a power source for your driving light switch. That fuse is located in the fuse panel on the passenger side dash. That way the lights would go off with the ignition even if you forgot and left the switch on. Also, you would just need to run one small gauge wire through the firewall for the relay trigger.

The relay would be located under the hood near the battery, connected to the + battery terminal via an inline fuse. The switch would be just switching the relay trigger, which is less than 1 amp.

I ran my red to the battery, black and red to the relay switch and then through the firewall into the cab.

Re: Installing after market driving lights - Help

check out 4x4parts.com for a switch that fits in all nissan with a factory dash for only $15. click on lighting then off road lighting. i have 3 of them and they really look like they came from the factory. also use the12volt.com to learn more than you ever wanted to know about how to use relays. they also have diagrams on how to wire relays for specific uses.
