?? about cabin air filter...

Hey guys. I just bought a 2005 LE 4wd OR CC (with only 12,600 miles!!) and I have noticed I think the previous owner was a smoker. It's really not bad at all but I can detect a hint of the smell and I went to check the cabin filter last week and to my surprise, there wasn't on in the box. I'm thinking the dealer took it out because it was saturated with the smoke smell and it made it smell worse and they were just too cheap to put a new one in. anyway, I ordered one off ebay yesterday and just wanted to ask if I'll lose a lot of air pressure (not blow as hard ) once I put the filter in. Thanks for the info guys! I've learned a TON already on here!!! GREAT SITE!

Thanks guys. So you both have used the AC with no filter in vs with a filter and had no difference?

Re: ?? about cabin air filter...

Honestly, I wouldn't run it without the filters in there. Mine blows just fine. I don't think it needs more, and I don't really think the filters impede airflow significantly. The allergen removal is worth it alone, to me.

I ran mine for awhile without filters, and you are better off with the filters, but again really no difference in the way that the fan blows.

Plus, before you put in new filters vacuum out the fan housing.

Do these things really make a difference? 45k and I've not replaced mine yet.

Re: ?? about cabin air filter...

Then you may not want to look at them.... They've probably all but grown legs by now!

The slot where the filters go, is a good access point.

Re: ?? about cabin air filter...

My truck never had the filters in it from the factory. I just bought them recently and put them in and made it a point to specifically check if they would impede air flow. There is hardly any flow difference at all with or without the filters.

Re: ?? about cabin air filter...

let me be the first to say being in the HVAC trade, running any type of AC unit without a filter is a no no.

Automotive and or Home/business use the same basic design, and not having a filter to trap the dirt, hairs, alergens etc., it will just build up on the coil and cause your compressor to over work and or fail.

Buy the filters, change them they are the cheaper item to replace in the HVAC system

And the minor loss of air flow from the filter shouldnt be too bad that the normal person would notice.
