Volant LED Taillights Fix

This is for those that have the Volant LED tailights.
I had a intermittent problem with 3 LED's going out, passenger side top left. If I thumped it on the side they would come back on, for a while anyway.
I figured it was a solder that had come loose, but didn't think I would be able to get inside to fix.
Well, I removed the taillight to have a look and see what it would take to get inside. It looked like the plastic cap was melted on and I would have to drill out the holes to break it loose. On inspection I found there where screws under rubber RTV. I scraped out the rubber, removed the screws and the cap came right off. I took the circuit board off the left side and wiggled the LED's and found the top one was loose.
Easy fix, just heat the solder up and done.

Lights work perfect now. So you can change individual LED's if needed.

Hope this helps someone with the same or simular problem.

Re: Volant LED Taillights Fix

Good post, great title! This should help a few, (since Volant is supposed to be so reliable, just a few!) Nice writeup.

Re: Volant LED Taillights Fix

I have the same problem. One row of LED lights won't work. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go instead of sending them back.

Re: Volant LED Taillights Fix

I wonder if this would work for us poor folks who can't afford Volant tails and went Ebay. I have a set that currently has two rows out on the passenger side. I have already received a new set so I have nothing to loose in trying this. Thanks for the post. Great heads up.

I believe that RTV stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing. I use the Permatex Black RTV on the drain plugs of my differentials and transfer case.
