I just installed my BakFlip cover last night and have a few questions about the fit of it:
• After I installed the side rails I noticed that the plate that extends out of each rail was angled up (see photo) is this common? It seems to push the cover up and creates an odd transition between the seal and the top of the truck bed (see photo). Is that normal? Would a provided shim fix this and if so how and where do I place it?
• I see on other post that people used the shims when installing the cover but the instructions have a shim position chart that says that the Titan doesn’t need them; I did not use them when installing the side rails is that the reason for the trim sitting the way it does?
• Along the side of the BakFlip the rubber seal is raised at the folding points of the cover, (see photo) is that normal and will it remain like that or will it self adjust as it gets exposed to the sun?
• When I place the cover up in the open position next to the cab it hits the glass of the cab, that can’t be right there is no padding to protect the glass. Do you use the provided rubber shims as padding?
Just wondering if anyone else has experience the same issue and what they did about them.
Over all this was an easy installation, the hardest part was turning the factory tie down rails upside-down.

Sorry to negative, but after countless phone calls to Ivan (owner), I got no satisfaction to my issues.
I sold it, and bought a Trifecta.
I don't regret that move!!

Some owners heat the rubber with a blowdryer/heat gun.
Yeah, the rubber along the side will sit down afer sometime in the sun,(when the cover is packaged it is all folded up, thats why the rubber seal does that when you first install it.
As far as it hitting the glass on your cab... It should've came with a short rubber piece 'bout 2' long (kinda looks like a bulb seal) with double back tape on it. Just open your cover all the way to the cab and stick that rubber piece on the cover where it's hitting the glass.

I didnt need the shims.
The aluminium plate is angled up on mine as well and as you tighten the bolts it will angle more anyway. i don't think that's what's holding the front up....it looks like the water resevoir(on the bak flip rails) are hitting the utilitrac rail in front and holding the bakflip rail up alittle.(you might have to take that front rail off??? ) I don't have the utilitrac rail and mine sits flush on the edge of the bed.
The rubber strip should lay down after it sits in the sun awhile...again I didn't have that problem.
Also like he said^^^^^^^^^^the extra rubber strips they sent should be attached to the last panel where hit hits the cab.
Thanks all I will check to see if the water reservoir (on the bak flip rails) are hitting the utilitrac rail in front and holding the bakflip rail up a little and I will let the GA sun do its work.
I checked and the front of the bakflip was on the edge of the truck bed rails, just euf to make it stand out. I moved it off but now I'm not too happy with how the rubber lines up with the track edge one side seems a little off no matter how much I push or pull, maybe I expect too much but I’m very anal about the lines they should be the same for both sides. I realize I’m only talking about 1/8th of an inch but slopy is slopy. As for the rubber we will see what the GA sun will do.
Boy I don't recall reading about using the heat gun before; I wonder what more I missed
Don't use a heat gun! that will cause the glue to fail, the seals on the G2 take a little time to lay flat and if you want to speed it up, use a hair dryer on a low setting
Thanks for the tip about the heat gun, The GA sun took the rubber down a bit, I see what happens over the next few weeks, if it doesn’t do much more I will use the hair dryer.
On another note I got some of the reducer hose for the drainage works like a dream, I will take some photos soon to post them.
Thanks for the info IZZY. I purchased my bakflip from Josh there at Realtruck (Great customer service BTW and he offers a nice added discount to TT members). I have my first package and my second comes UPS tommorrow. Did you flip the front utilitrack as well or just the sides. Has anyone used the backflip with the bed extender. I understand that the extender will be a slight angle but will it stick up so much it will interfere with the bakflip? I'll let you all know after i get mine on this weekend.
I just got an email response from Julian who is the owner of Bak Industries-
Josh,
The first thread had some points which I’ll answer as follows:
We can provide a 1/8 inch shim to be positioned at the highest point of the inside edge of the rail where the plate is. This will level the plate off if needed.
If the rubber seals are raised at the hinge points, it’s a result of shipping all folded up. Heat will do the trick for sure, A heat gun will not cause glue to fail as the seals are attached with a tongue and groove design. No glue is there at all. A quick lick with a heat gun or hair dryer and the rubber will conform to its original shape.
Rubber pads are indeed provided to protect the cab from touching the cover. If he doesn’t have any we can ship them out right away.
Anybody who is going to flip your rails USE AN IMPACT WRENCH. I spent 10 minutes on one bolt before stripping it, 10 minutes with an impact and the whole job is done. I used an adjustable 1/2" impact with 250 ft/lb torq at about 50% and it worked great, now I just have to replace the bolt I wrecked!
