Tonneau cover help!!!

I have a 2008 Titan Crew Cab and I have owned many trucks but never had a tonneau cover and can't decide which one is best

I'm considering the TiltBak, RollBak and one of the many hard fiberglass ones out there...

I work out of my truck and can't figure out what might be the best for needing to get in and out of it at times but it's not a necessity i guess is what i'm trying to say...

any advice on any of those or other suggestions are welcome as well!

i use the retrax system... i love it's durable, and you can position it 1/2, 3/4, 1/10 closed or anywhere you need itonly prob is you loose about 8inches of your bed.... easy to install and remove when ever it isn't needed lockable and extremely secure looks good and nearly flush. i love it. oh and i made mine completly sealed by runnning weather stripping down the sides , and bottom of tailgate, the only spot i havent figured out how to seal up is the top of the tailgate. but no water gets in mine.

I have an Undercover trunk like tonneau. It was on the truck when I bought it. If I had to replace it, I would go with the sliding type for more flexibility. I now own a motorcycle and I do not have the option of hauling it in the bed because of the type cover I own. Hope this helps you.

Had an ARE on my last truck & hated it. It looked really good, but was next to impossible to remove when I really needed to use the bed for more than small items.

I have the Trifecta now & love the flexibility. Looked at the Undercover & it was nice too (also fairly easy to remove if needed), but was 2x the cost.

Depends really on how secure you want the bed to be. If you want the security, get something like the UnderCover. If you never leave expensive stuff in the bed, something like the Trifecta will do just fine for 1/2 the cost.

I think Miked1 is right on.

If you need a hard cover that you can stand on, is easily removable, has a small 3 LED bedlight, and is less expensive than a fiberglass cover, it's hard to beat Undercover.

If you're OK with a soft cover, there are many good ones out there such as Extang (they have several models), Access Cover, or Truxedo (they have several models).

yeah i think i've finally decided on a retractable hard cover like the retrax or the pace edwards full metal jack rabbitt...

but which one is the best one for the money out there?!?? let the opinions flow!

Originally, I wanted to get the Undercover because you can supposedly stand on them and they're made out of durable composite plastic.. Unfortunately, they don't make them for the longer King Cab beds. The ARE hard tonneau covers looked pretty nice and seemed to be a quality piece. However, the ARE doesn't match the lines of the Titan IMO. The sides of tonneau cover are too rounded. The Leer 700 series seem to match the lines of the Titan better. Luckily, I never had to take it off so if you need the height space, a retractable is the way to go or perhaps a cap.

I considered the pace edwards model, but I found out that the plastic shell in the front would take up quite a bit of room in the bed (can't remember how much). I haul dirt bikes so I needed easy access to my entire bed and didn't want to sacrifice bed length. I got the Truxedo Lo Pro (soft, rollup) and so far I love it! It is really a well designed product! I had a $250 gift card from 4 wheel parts so my out of pocket was like $180....nice!!

The downside to retractable covers is that you will lose about 1 foot of room at the bulkhead due to the roll-up canister.

Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit: Vinyl laminated aluminum. It's not a smooth cover, it's wavy. The Full Metal Jack Rabbit (black powdercoated aluminum) is much better looking. If you get a Pace Edwards cover, be sure to lube the rails a couple of times a year.

RollNLock: Vinyl laminated aluminum. RollNLock is a workhorse. If installed correctly, they go forever, but sometimes they are difficult to get just right. RollNLock locks the tailgate when the cover is closed (although the lock is not so heavy duty).

Retrax: Made of Lexan, which is a type of plastic. Retrax is a good cover. The cover is not spring loaded like the other retractables, so move the cover at will into any position. It does not lock the tailgate when closed. It may cover or partially cover your stake pockets, but you can order it with the stack pockets open for a small additional fee. The Lexan can scratch, but then so can the vinyl and aluminum. However, since the Lexan is perfectly smooth, you will tend to more easily see those scratches as opposed to the Pace Edward Metal which has a texture. If you get a Retrax, make sure you are getting the lock cover. It will keep junk out of the lock mechanism.

Have you considered a hard folding cover? There's no roll-up canister to deal with.

FoldACover: Black powdercoated aluminum. They recently came out with a slight redesign. The lock is different and in another location. It's an improvement. I think folding covers are a great concept and FoldACover is a good one.

I bought the UnderCover Tonneau and I an very happy with it..The only issue I had was flipping the utilitrack rails..Use heat like a propane torch to loosen the loctite.

I just installed a BakFlip about two weeks ago, love it and it didn't take long to install.
at first I had some issues but after talking on the posting all issues where realy nothing

I have a Leer 700 going on the truck this weekend. I went with that because I work out of my truck as well and the lines of the cover look sharp. In the end it was between the Leer and the retrax for me.

The Bakflip has had some serious problems in the past. Their new model has not been out too long so the jury is still out. But, it's my understanding that the new model is experiencing a glue problem.

The new G2 version of the BakFlip has no glue, it uses a tongue and groove interlocking system with rivets to keep the seals in place. Since the new model came out I have had very few issues with it, less than with many of the other types out there. I would highly recommend it, but the PE and RollBak are real good if you want a retractable cover
