Question Wheels and Tires

HI - I am new at this, My Husband loves our Titan and I want to get him new Wheels and tires and I am absolutly confused on how to get the right stuff.

Here is the info TITAN 06 LE

He wants Wheels that are 17 and bigger tires like 18 or 20,
I am not sure about the rim spacing, tire width or capacity needs, Our Titan came with non factory wheels and they are ugly,

Please help me figure out what we need- I want to surprise him and order the Wheels he wants, just in the right size.

thanks

Wow- thanks for the responses , no lift kit ... he is a charpenter and drives around on new dev construction sites. He wants the summer tires to be off road

Re: Wheels and Tires

Welcome to TT!!

Our offset is +25 on the spacing. Just to make sure we understand, you want a 17" rim, with bigger than stock size tires?

Does he have a lift on the truck? If not, I don't think you can go bigger than a 33" tire, without rubbing.

What does he do with the truck?

Re: Wheels and Tires

Go to the tire and wheels forum, take a look at some of the threads there.
You can contact tire rack and they can help you out too.

Re: Wheels and Tires

A little more info along the lines of what VIPZACH was asking would be very helpful. Just to make sure you get what you want.

Lucky guy to have his wife doing this for him!

Re: Wheels and Tires

OK, get him some 18" Rockstars with 33" Nitto terra grapplers. Done, call tire rack.
I'm not trying to be rude, just offering quick easy advise. The rockstars and Terragrapplers are popular right now so you can't go wrong. They'll look really good.

Re: Wheels and Tires

The backspacing should be between 5" and 5.8", stock is 5.5" which for an 8" wide rim, has a +25mm offset.

On a 8.5" rim you would need an offset of around +18mm for 5.5" of backspacing, and on a 9" rim, about +12mm of offset will give 5.5" of backspacing. A 17x8 is wide enough for most tires, and you're more likely to rub at the pinch weld with a 9" (especially if it has the smaller backspacing like 5").

For tires, the best size for a 17" rim on a unleveled Titan is a LT285/70/17. You can find this size in most of the popular brands and models. Even Bridgestone now offers an AT Dueler Revo in this size now, where before only the P285 was available in the Revo. BFGoodrich AT KOs, and Nitto Terra Grappler ATs have a more aggressive look, as do the Toyo M/T, but I think you would need a LT265/70/17 for the Toyo M/T.

Btw, I'd be PO'd at my wife if she surprised me with rims or tires as there's no way she, (or probably most members here), would get the ones I would like. Cut him a check or a credit card. And since different places carry different brands, don't saddle him with a gift card to just one place. Just a thought

Since he's a carpenter on Const Sites, I agree with this 150%!!!! A meaty and nice looking tire size is 325/60-18 and a little less aggressive would be 285/60-18.

Some 18 x 9 KMC Rockstar wheels with 325/60-18 Nitto TerraGrappler tires always looks super hot.

If you decide to go with 20's, the 20 x 9 wheels with 305/55-20 tires will come out to be that same size. 20's usually cost a bit more than 18's in the long run.

Personally, I like the Mamba M4 wheels the best but the Rockstars are more popular.
