Backed into bumper

OK, some guy backed into me and does not have insurance. He hung around until I came out and informed me. I have $500 deductable. The bumper is bent and chrome still looks OK no scratch or peeling.

I don't want to make a claim if it can just be straightend. The guy was not from around here so I kind of just let him off the hook. It was his farm truck so the dent in his tailgate he was not worried about. My bumper was higher than his

Any experience with just straightening and not replaceing?

Thanks...

Re: Backed into bumper

I crunched my bumper into the rear quarter panel last year. It wasn't a bad hit but it did bend the bumper. I straightened it out the best I could with a hand winch (a.k.a. come-along). It looked ok but there was a small wrinkle on the bottom edge of the bumper. A new bumper is about $400 as I recall.

Re: Backed into bumper

Check EBAY or craigslist and see if you can get a used one.

Re: Backed into bumper

Post a pic.
It will never be perfect, but there are ways to get it closer.

I wouldn't have let the dude go. Should have had him give you a cow or something.

Re: Backed into bumper

LMAO like I need a cow

He was just real nice and like I said he waited till I came out. He even thought his Farm insurance may cover it. I travel a lot for work and he lives 200 + miles away. I have his info but heck at $400.00 that is below my deductible. He was an obvious honest and hard working guy... did not have insurance and probably a reason for that has to do with income. Farmers and ranchers here are taking a beating. Heck possibly a lot of farmers don't insure their old work trucks. The town I was in has about 400 people there and probably not a big issue to head to town in their work vehicle.

I'm going by a local shop that has a good rep after work. Guess I'll see... Thanks for the input!

Re: Backed into bumper

You might find a used bumper here on TT in the buy/sell section.
