I don't mean to be redundant in the HID topic, but after some searching I still didn't really see the answer.
Are people typically installing the HID conversion kits on the Low Beam, Hi Beam or both?
My specific situation may help also - for the summer, I'm living up in the mountains of UT, and 'have a 12 mile drive up a very twisty, winding road, filled with DEER. I really think installing the HID kits will be money well spent and am assuming it would be at my best option to convert both my Hi's and Lows?
Install the low beams first...After install I seriously doubt you will even consider getting Hi beams. Your low beam HID will be brighter and have better clarity than your stock hi beams.
Then later if you really just want to spend the money you can do the Hi beams. I went the expensive route on a set of HID's once and purchased the Bi-xenon for my Mustang which had one bulb with both hi and low in one bulb. And the kti was about $100 more expensive cause they was for hi and low beams. After install I never even turned on my hi beams, they are actually too bright in my opinon.
I live in a pretty urban area and don't get to use my high beams very often. However, two night ago I found myself in the sticks and turned on my highbeams. I had to turn them on and off a few times before I could see the difference.
So - moral of the story - what wicked said. You'll come to the same conclusion - you won't need 'em... (Unless you live in the desert and like to go pre-running at night)

Right - thats why I've never looked into HIDs before this (I lived in Vegas previously and NEVER used my highs or even needed headlights at all!)
So let me get this straight -
9006 is the low beam bulb. For that I would get this kit: (notice they are 20% off right now)
9005 is the high beam bulb. But I don't see a "9005 HID" kit - are you just using the same kit for low beams, but adding that in as the "high"? The low beam needs to be shielded, correct?
I'm a bit unsure...if someone can clarify that'd be great. Thanks. And one last thing - 4300 or 6000?
A HID kit isn't recommended for the high beams due to the constant cycling of the lights. The ballast and xenon bulb doesnt like to be cycled on and off. Same goes for the fogs as they cycle with the high beams. And only if it was that easy to avoid deer or deter them with a lighting setup.
HID are not designed to be used for high beams they can't handle the constant on and off, it will decreases the lamps life expectancy. Like everyone else says once you get them in you low beams you will not need to use your high beams. I also have them in my fog lights and it makes a huge difference in the windy turn of the mountains. I’m running the 6000k and I have had the 8000k I think its just more of a personal preference.

I'm not trying or thinking I will be alleviating a possible run-in with a deer by using HIDs. I'm just trying to increase my field of vision to the highest level possible without mounting four 9" Hella HIDs on the front.

I did lows and fogs but only use the fogs when in the mountains or in areas with deer. All four on lights up the road like daylight!! What part of Utah montains are you in?

Yeah I may do fogs too - I think when you can turn them on, the more light, the better.
Firulice: I'm living up at Solitude (Brighton) for the summer 'til I find a house to buy in the SLC area. I just relocated to kick off a new business with a partner, up in Park City.
Here's another question, or survey for that matter - what temp do you guys run? I know its personal preference, but I'm just trying to get as much light output as possible - so I'm assuming 4300s or 6000s?

good assumption, i am running 8k and the light output is still way better than halo's, with a good tint of blue ofcourse.

That's cool I was just up by solitude on the quad. I run 6000k cause I like the white look beter than the blue tint the 8000k puts out. I've had them before too and they are still nice but I like 6k better. Personal preference really but I believe 4300 is brighter than 6 than 8
