Well just to warn you, the Flowmaster is by no means a quiet muffler. If you've read all my posts I've noted the sound levels and provided some sound bytes. I haven't heard the Banks first hand, so I can not compare the two. However I am very pleased with the system. Should you have any further questions, let me know.
Had a Flowmaster 50 on my last truck (Dodge) with straight out the back
duel pipes and after 4 years, I'd had enought of the "rumble." On my Titan
LE I liked the sound of the stock muffler but wanted the same duel look as
on the Dodge. Therefore, I had a "Y" pipe installed on the back side of the
stock muffler, ran the two 2.25" pipes out either side of the hitch and added
2.75" extensions like Sammy's. Maybe down the line I may go with a 70 series
but for now it looks good, and sounds good, when I get on it - and all for $150.
I too am considering going this route but would like to know how your performance is affected by having a "Y" pipe on both sides of your muffler. Sounds like there could be a lot of back pressure from this setup? I certainly would not want to effect my low end torque. Thanks.
Well I haven't got to test a full tank since I've reset my computer after the x-pipe. But I did drive the completed system to Atlanta and back without resetting the computer and I averaged 17.5mpg @ 80+ mph the whole way. So I feel that it is improving, I got about a 1/4 tank left then after I refill it, I'll do a city driving mpg test.
I went with the 40 series delta flow muffler and man do i feel the difference as well as hear the difference i gotta say the 40 series delta flow would do just right i get lots of complaments on how my TITAN sounds its one mean muffler
hey sammy on your flowmasters---why did you go aluminized versus stainless steel---just trying to firm everything up before friday as that is when I am getting mine installed
$$$ my friend. Aluminized will last as long as I have the truck. Most factory pipe is aluminized, and usually the only thing to rust is the muffler or tips (chrome usually solves that) I had aluminzed on my '99 Blazer and never had a problem with it for the 5 years I had it. My father's Silverado has aluminized and it's a '95. Stainless is great if you have the money and can find a shop that carries it. Most shops dislike working with stainless as it doesn't bend or spread as easily, so they usually up the price on labor as well.
Sammy I was wondering who you got to install your pipes and Flowmaster. Iam in Dothan so it may be worth the drive to someone thats has worked with a Titan.
I believe the place was called Enterprise Brake and Muffler, just south of downtown on 27. They should be in the Yellow Book, just let me know if you need any other info.
Unfortunately I was not as lucky as most of you. After reading this thread and many like it, I had made up my mind to go with Flowmaster dual exhaust very much like Sammy has. So today I went around to Nissan (1st oil change!) and then a local exhaust place. I had very good high quality pics from this thread (thanks Sammy!) to use as examples. After discussing my plans with the mechanics we put my baby up on the lift for a looksie. Then the mechanics said they could not legally make the mods. Apparently in VA they can not disconnect piping that close to the cats. Some crap about gas mixing and stuff. So they said they could not remove my Y-pipe and thus no X-pipe as Sammy shows. Has anyone else heard this line before???
That was only the beginning of my trouble. We then discussed possible alternatives such as single in dual out (which I did not like), but when they looked at the port side of my truck (that is the left side for non-military folks ) they were very concerned about the proximity of the exhaust pipes to the brake lines on the right hand side. I remember reading about this somewhere. They basically said they would not do any sort of dual exhaust for this reason. This stinks!
What do you guys think? Is VA too restrictive on emissions? Is the proximity to the brake lines a real concern? Or should I just go looking somehere else?

Yes, from someone else stationed in VA at that time.
Sounds like they just didn't want your business. I had my old truck when I lived in Woodbridge and had to get the emissions tested on it, never had a problem. But I did get the work done in SC. Personally it just sounds like they didn't want the hassle of piping a new truck. My advice, try elsewhere, don't settle for less than what you want. That line about disconnecting piping close to the cats is BS in MHO. What do they think all the cat-back systems on the market do?
Thanks I will look around some more. What about the proximity to the brake lines?
Also on similar point, if the exhaust is deemed to close to the lines, then what about a dual side exhaust (like possibly the Gibson?). Looks like I have some more reading to do.
I'm getting ready to install my Flowmaster 70 series, dual exhaust set up - just waiting for my magnaflow tips to show up on Monday. Sammy - thank s for sticking with this great thread and for all the information and photos. I had my list of parts, and photos and went to a custom exhaust shop - it was a big help - and the shop owner was impressed with the work on your truck Sammy. Can't wait - hope to have it done by next Friday.
Also, put a Fram Airhog, drop in Hi-Performance filter in today - just like the K&N drop in.

Well, with my dual exit setup, it only comes close to the left rear line. The And still not close enough to be overly concerned with. It's an easy fix to loosly zip tie it up and away or you could by some heat shield tape and wrap it or you could wrap that section of exhaust pipe with header wrap. ABS sensor lines and e-brake lines were zip tied togeter as well. Basically, if the installer bends the pipe similar to how I have mine, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Glad I could be of assistance. Eventually I'll edit the first post in this thread to show everything that was done, so that readers won't have to scroll through all these pages.
