SoCal Titan - Like my Fram AirHog alot - it's almost identical to the K&N drop in filter. I did notice a difference right away in permormance - I debated about the Volant system - but decided to save $250 and go with just the hi-vol filter change. I couldn't find a K&N drop in anywhere locally - walked into Pep Boys & they had the fram right on the shelf.
Had my new flowmaster 70 dual exhaust installed today - it's the nuts!
I noted Sammy Sandbags post on 4-15 :My big question is, do we have any concensus on what the impact is to upgrading to the dual in\dual out Flowmaster 70 series does to fuel effeciency? I drive over 100 miles a day, and fuel prices are almost killing me, especially with Pacific Northwest prices.
Also - I'm wondering if anyone knows how much an aftermarket cool air intake will help with fuel effeciency?

I'm getting 17-18 mpg highway and 14-16 mpg city, so It's been slighlty improved over the pre-exhaust mod of about 15 mpg highway and 12-13 city. Some of the improvement is probably engine break-in. But I would definately not install a Flowmaster if all you are looking for is MPG improvement. If you want more sound, the look of dual pipes, and possible performance/mileage improvements, then do it.
Well, had my mind made up to go with the Sandbagger System until I visited the local custom exhaust house. They recommended the big Flo-Pro dual-in dual-out muffler vs the Flowmaster 70 series. The two are almost identical dimensionally, dealer said Flo-Pro has a 3-year warranty, Flowmaster only 1 (??, thought the FM has a 20-year?), FP is 14-ga vs 16 for FM, and they charge $25 less for the Flo-Pro. Configuration they recommended was the Flo-Pro with 2 1/4 pipes both in and out, no crossover or x-pipe, $350 installed with plain steel/chrome tips, another $125 for Polished SS better quality tips.
Although I still favor the Sandbag System with Flowmaster (just gonna cost a bit more), any comments on the Flo-Pro muffler either on Titan or otherwise would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry but this FlowPro sounds like a knock off to me. Look at their site, they have some cut aways of their mufflers:
vs the 70 series:
To me that doesn't show any real advantage over an oem style muffler, and is sorta gimicky. They recommended dual in with no crossover?!? I've never heard of a exhaust shop say that, and I would highly recommend that you have at least an H-pipe with a dual set up. 2.25" pipe sounds about right. Flowmaster waranty is 1 year on aluminized products and lifetime on stainless, but I've never had one rust out. This shop might be trying to sell what they have in stock, or there might be a higher mark up on the Flo-Pro. I had a muffler shop give me the same deal on my old truck, they recommended the MellowTone muffler over the Flowmaster. They said it was quieter on the highway and it was a bit cheaper than the Flowmaster. This was before I knew too much about mufflers, so I took their advice and had it installed. Unfortunately it droned like crazy at highway speeds, I eventually had it cut off and a oem style muffler put back on. In retrospect, I believe they were just trying to sell me something with a higher mark up that they had in stock, and Mellow Tone is a generic knock off. It's my guess that most installers don't make much off of Flowmasters because they can be found on the Internet quite easily, and to remain competitive they have to sell them at close to invoice. In fact my installer was going to charge me a good bit more for the 70 before I convinced him I could order it from Summit or Jegs for much less. He then ordered me one at invoice.
Yeah, no thanks, I think I'll pass on the "Flo Pro". They probably get the Flo Pro for dirt cheap and sell it for a few bucks less then the Flomaster. At least with the Flomaster you know what you're getting.

Thanks Sammy and Big Plat, Confirms what I suspected. I'm going with the Flowmaster, lists at 99.00 from JEG's. The shop also was hesitant on the x-pipe, but I'm sold that it's the only way to go. Sammy, thanks for being the Exhaust System Guru!
(If you have a need for it, I've downloaded most of the Titan Service Manual.)

No problem Dale, glad I could be of assistance. $100 for a 70 series sounds right, like I said I had my shop price match Summit. They were also a little hesitant about the X, since they normally do H pipe installs. Let us know how it turns out and if you like it. I'm still very pleased with mine, not too loud, not too quiet.
Hi guys I'm new here as of a couple weeks ago I started lurking in your forums. I finally made my decision last week to buy a Titan instead of a Tundra. I want to thank you all here for helping me make my decision even though you didnt know you were doing so. I also thanks my brother who told me to look into the titan as a replacement for my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. I was sold on the Tundra until last monday when I went and test drove the Titan. Thanks to Sammies sound bytes he posted of his Flowmaster 70 series set up I am planning to do the same thing. I was originally going to go with the Banks system but I love the sound that Sammies set up is makeing.
My question for you Sammy is didnt I read somewhere that you had the work done in South Carolina. If so where at because that is where I live. I would really like to go to someone that already has experience with working with one of our trucks.
thanks in advance and get used to seeing me.

Sorry M4ck, that was my last truck. I had my Titan done here in Enterprise, AL. I did buy the truck in Lexington, SC though. Glenn's Muffler Shop in Seneca, SC does some good work if that is near you. Otherwise I'd just ask around and find a good reputable shop at the right price.
Seneca is not far at all. I'm in Greenville. I do have a question about your setup. After talking to a shop today they said why would I want an Xpipe between the cats and the dual in on the muffler. Then they asked me why not just go "TRUE"
dual. Straight from the cats into 2 seperate mufflers then straight out the mufflers to the tail. Any thoughts on this and why they said the Xpipe was a waste. By the way what is the Xpipe for. After thinking about what he said. Why didn't you go straight from the cats to the mufflers dual in then have the rest like you have it. Just curious because I have no clue about exhausts.
thanks
m4ck
