Should you get exhaust system if you get an air intake system??!!
A buddy of mine was telling me that if you get an air intake kit and you dont upgrade your exhaust you're not really getting the full benefit and its not worth just upgrading the air intake and not the exhaust. Is this true? I dont want to mess with the exhaust because I like the sound of it the way it is and Im affaid that if I upgrade it it will sound too loud or just different.
Any comments on this?!

HE IS RIGHT BUT YOU WILL STILL FEEL A DIFFERENCE WITH ANY MODS THAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO.THE SKIES THE LIMIT ON THE AMOUNT OF MODS YOU WANT
Your friend is right, but you will get a performance increase with the air intake system. The problem is the engine is able to breath much better with the increase in cold air coming in, but sense you have the stock exhaust on there it's diameter isnt able to handle the increase in air coming out so alittle bit of backpressure is created and cutting the possible performance increase.
To clearify this cuts possbile total performance increase this will not hinder the normal performance at all. Get hooked up with a quality exhaust so that nice engine can get rid of the increase in air just as fast and you will not only take full advantage of your uprades but sound damn nice.
Is there an exhaust system out there that will not change the sound too much? I dont want to be heard coming a block away and I dont want too much cabin noise from te exhaust.
Also, does the intake system change the sound too?

YES IT WILL CHANGE THE SOUND A LITTLE.BUT IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF PERSON THAT LOVES TO GET ON THE GAS YOU WILL REALLY NOTICE A DIFFERENCE IN THE CAB FOR NORMAL DRIVING YOU WONT NOTICE IT MUCH AT ALL ,EXCEPT FOR THE POWER.I HAVE THE VOLANT INTAKE WITH NO EXHAST MODS (YET).THE FIRST TIME YOU GET ON IT AFTER THE INSTALL IT WILL FRIGHTEN YOU BUT AFTER THAT YOU WILL GROW TO LOVE IT.AS I SAID ITS ADDICTIVE.I WONT EVEN THINK OF GIVING YOU GUYS A GAS MILAGE # BECAUSE I DONT THINK THAT MY DRIVING HABITS WILL IS HELPING IT AT ALL. PEACE

Hey JR,
How did the volant frighten you? Is it the extra power? Does the intake upgrade alone change the sound?

If you want to wake up the beast do the exhaust, I did simple muffler swap and it sounds good and deep not loud at all
I personally wouldn't recommend altering the factory air box. What alot of people don't realize is how much engineering goes into the stock set up for max power and reliability. Especially on a truck where the possibility of driving through lots of water and dust is present, there is even more of a reason to stick with the factory set up. The amount of power you will gain isn't worth the trade offs

Very True. With emissions manufacturers had too go too extremes too provide best setup possible. Its not worth upgrading at the moment. Wait a couple years atleast. Your main upgrade you want is a aftermarket programmer. Then start your upgrades. As of now your will be changing air flow, and exhaust without the computer knowing it, and it could cause long term problems such as burn valves. Its best too leave it alone until something that adjusts computer too mods. Just my opinion though.
