Volant or K&N

That is the question, which one is better the pro's and con's and whats the major differences between the two.

I looked under the hood and...dont we already have an intake that sucks air from the front fender? Whats the benefit of replacing one Cold Air Intake with another?

Might be a silly question but seems the OEM is pretty damn good =)

Surface area and smoother flow of air. A conical filter has a greater surface area than the flat type used in an airbox. The K&N and Volant also have a smoother tube for the air to flow through. The flexible section (think accordion) of the factory set up is no longer there. The air goes directly from the filter to the pipe in the aftermarket set up, versus into the airbox, 90* turn through filter, then 90* turn to tube. But overall the factory setup is pretty good and these kits can only offer small gains.

While I'm thinking about it, do we have dyno sheets for each CAI? I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison. Although with systems like this, ambient air temperature could produce/reduce more power than the actual mod.

"Although with systems like this, ambient air temperature could produce/reduce more power than the actual mod."

thats true for most cases but the stock system seems to be made of similar materials and draws air in from the same point so im guessing that it wont be that much of a difference, if any.

I agree. So, I'm considering a flat panel style K&N, which should allow more volume? At an inexpensive price? Don't get me wrong, but I'd rather spend the money where the Horsepower is, and if there is Not much difference in performance, save your money for the Cat-Back!
