I finally got a shot of the gift I received from my better half. My specifications: true dual to be on the quieter side, without compromising any power or performance.
An expert in the area set me up through use of a H-pipe, two Vortec Turbo mufflers and a couple of oval rolled Meggs tips.
I'm very pleased with it. I love the sound - it's not loud but it's solid.

I'm guessing they mounted the mufflers side by side in the approximate vicinity of the oem muffler. Can you get some under-body shots? Looks good from out back.
Here's the best belly shot I could manage to get with the camera I borrowed.
You'll notice the pipes before the tips have been blackened so you really have to look for them.
Kev
Is there any way you can get a shot of the H-pipe? I'm wondering where the guy put it. I've been thinking of this EXACT same setup in my head but couldn't really find any mufflers online that would pack together like you've got them. Well at least I know it's possible and thanks for the pics you've taken. Any chance you could go and get it dynoed??
wow, how does the truck perform now with he added dual setup--can you "feel" the added pull, or did you do it more for cosmetics?? how do you like the vortec mufflers. and finally stainnless or aluminized?? also what size pipe are you using?

When my better half wakes up, I'll ask him to go out and try to get some shots of the H-pipe. Maybe he can get in there better than I did. Honestly, you might think I'm crazy but I felt a huge difference a matter of hours after it was done. I understand to expect this for a few days as the computer resets. It just made it feel more sound with a little extra punch. I did it to add to - the cosmetic is just lagniappe.
I really like the Vortecs. This is the third truck/SUV we've used them on. They are the quietest of performance mufflers we've found so far. They are stainless 2.5 pipe. Blackening them above the tips is merely cosmetic as far as I know.
Hope this helps some.

Nice, but the H-pipe should be located as close to the cats as possible. It sorta loses it's effectivness that far down the line, still better than straight pipes though.
Here go, casique ... here's a complete break down. I went to a "muffler shop" that has a high performance reputation but only to the extent of exhaust systems. They aren't the "cheapest" in my area but they are without a doubt the best at what they do.
3 year warranty on mufflers and pipes ... lifetime on tips.
Sammy, if there's a better way to set up these exhausts, you might want to drop a line to the group that did mine from their website: www.kinneysmufflershop.com. I appreciate the tip - I'm simply not qualified to explain it to them. I know they're interest is in top quality work and their aim to maintain their top-notch reputation. I'm sure they'd appreciate it!

Well I had a decent reply written, but then the server died and I lost it. But anyways, I was saying that the setup is very good from what I can tell from the pictures and the explaination. I've only heard through others that the placement of the crossover pipe (X or H) should be close to the headers/manifolds so it has an effect on the pulses while they are still hot/fast. There's a couple methods for actually placing the crossover properly. I've heard of guys using digital laser temp gauges or even wax crayons to determine the right spot where the exhaust pulses cool enough. I don't know much more than that. I myself just placed my x-pipe as close to the cats as possible. I didn't have as much room to work with, as the Flowmaster 70 is pretty long and so is the X-pipe. I wouldn't worry about it, just making an observation.
If your in the D/FW Texas area, Kinney's Muffler Shop is the place to go. I have been going there since it was just Kinney working by himself out of a converted gas station--16-17 years ago. Now Kinney's is known for doing many custom exhaust jobs and they are very good at what they do. Check out their website. Many pics of the work they have done. www.kinneysmufflershop.com . Click the "Results" link. If it can be done, they can do it. I plan to go there soon to get my dual exhaust installed. Haven't decided what I'm going with yet, but I know where I'm going to get it done.
