help with flowmaster exhaust

i just took my titan to the exhaust place and this is what they told me:

i would be best off with single in dual out 40 series flowmaster muffler. i know what i want it to sound like and it looks like id rather have the 50 series. i do want it loud. what is the best system for the 50 series muffler. could i still do what sammy did with the x pipe, would that sound good with the 50 series?

Should sound similar, just a good bit louder than my 70 series. I don't think anybody has done a 50 with an X, but I believe there are a few guys with 50 dual outs on here. If you do go with a dual in, be sure and at least have some type of crossover (H or X.) If you stay with a single in, you might want to replace the oem Y with something less restrictive. Flowmaster makes performance Y pipes, Magnaflow does as well, most muffler companies should.

Either way really would work. The advantage I see with a dual in with a X (or H) over a single in is that the gas pulses have more pathways to follow and the X still allows for the scavenging effect of the Y. If you go with dual in, I wouldn't go bigger than 2.25" pipe. If you go with the Y, I'd go 2.25 into the the Y, then 3 from there to the muffler, then 2.25 dual out. Ideally you'd have two seperate mufflers with a crossover pipe, but that can double the price of an install with only minimal gains.

hey Tampa; the main difference between duals and single pipe is, duals generally give more hp, singles generally give more torque.

Depends on how they are set up. True duals with no crossover won't have any scavenging effect and will lose the low rpm torque. The single in maintains the scavenging effect because both banks run to the same Y. If you have a dual set up with a crossover pipe (x or h) then the scavenging effect is maintained and you shouldn't experience any torque losses, and probably some improvement.

I went with a set up almost identical to Sammys - it's the nutz. But if you really want to improve on it listen to this. Take a tape deck with a microphone out jack - plug in the mic & duct tape it to the rear bumper after you install your flowmaster 70 and dual pipes. Run a line out from the tape deck to the auxillary in your Titan dash. Next time some box on wheels dodge/checy/or ford comes side by side at the light roll down your windows, crank up the vloume on your stereo (switched to auxillary input) and floor it! Damn that would be load as hell! LOL! dumb but funny idea.

Dam gearman you stole my idea, except i was going to record the exhaust sound of a top fuel dragster and play that over a megaphone.

J/K, but that would be pretty funny too, especially if you could get it to play with good quality! LOL
