emissions leak

Today my SES light came on so I stopped by the local advance auto to get the code checked. They told me it was a leak in the emissions somewhere. What is the best way to check the system to find the leak so I can fix my problem?

Thanks

Re: emissions leak

Do you hear a ticking noise when your truck is running. I had the same problem with my truck last week. I took it in and it turned out that my exhaust manifolds were cracked. They have have an extended emissions warranty of 8yrs / 80,000 miles. I would just take it to the dealership and have them check it out if you are still under the warranty, or you can just start and one end of the exhaust while the truck is running, and put your hand about an inch from the tubing and see if you feel air do this for the entire exhaust.

Re: emissions leak

If your ses light comes on again, you can find out what the code is by performing a simple procedure by yourself. Here's a link to the thread explaining how to read the code and reset your ses light.

Read and Reset the Service Engine Soon (SES) light

I have used this many times to clear the pesky evap valve code p0455. It sounds like they might be referring to the evap canister leak code. It is common for the valve to get gunked up, especially if it freezes and thaws alot and lets dirty water melt down into the valve, throwing the code. Usually you can just clear the code and all is well, but if it gets bad and you can no longer put gas in your truck then you might have to clean it out or replace it. Use the search and I'm sure you will find lots of threads about this issue.

Re: emissions leak

IF it's the same code I've been gettin it's probably a p04##. The nomenclature bully dog tells me for my specific code is something to the effect of "Evap emission control (large leak)" which is a p0455. Try tightening or replacing your gascap.

Re: emissions leak

Appreciate the replies. I haven't heard a ticking when i start it up and it was the p0445. I'll try clearing the code and see what happens. Also where is the Evap canister to clean it?

Thanks
