Radar Hardwire (my version)

So I wanted to hardwire my bel rx65 and after reading the other posts, decided to make a project of it.

Instead of a normal 2 wire power/ground plug, my det uses a "smart plug" that is essentially a 4 wire telephone plug. 2 wires for power/ground, and two more than control the functions on the cigarret plug. 1 led for power, 1 led for "warning", and one for mute/volume control.

I gutted the lighter plug and inside was a small circuit board. I popped out a blank from below the left of the steering wheel and gutted it to this out fit.. with a button and the two leds mounted on the circuit board.

I ran a 4 way phone wire (that plugs into the detector) from the circuit board up to the headliner and another 2 way phone wire (that is the power/ground).

I spliced the 2 wire into the wires noted in a previous post. To my surprise, they were always hot. Maybe I found the wrong ones... I most likely will update that.

The 4 way wire I spliced into another black 4 way plug and routed it behind the mirror to the detector.

It ended up working out great. Posting pics of the project:

I wish I would have had pictures of the stock cig plug before I took it apart. That little circuit board with the 2 lights and button was in that.

I ended up moving it to the far left blank spot... much easier to see. I also blew the little 2.5amp fuse (looks like a little resistor) that was burned onto the ciruit board and had to bypass that.. LOL! Oh well, easier to work with now. Lucky I have a continuity tester..
