ATT: Volant CAI Owners ! or prospective buyers

Not sure if someone else has already posted this new info, couldn't find it in a search:

After contacting "T" at Volant's customer support number (909) 476-7225 and explaining (complaining) the various fitment issues with their cold air intake, -- ie. at the fender, the open hole at bottom for scoop with no included plug, the poor "bolt-up-ability" of the box itself, -- "T" said that another intake has been designed. More specifically, the mold for the new box is just being completed. The new Volant Cold Air Intake will be available in 1 or 2 mos.
T said we can ship ours back after a replacement has been sent.

No need to call to get on a list, he isn't making one. It's just going to be on a call-in basis.

I will call back every week to bug him and as soon as they will release one, I will post a new thread so everyone will know when it is available.

"T" also confirmed that there ARE Two versions of the intake out, the first (which I have unfortunately) which was shipped through mid-April (but keep in mind your source may have had it on the shelf for longer than that) and the second which resolved only one or two of the fitment issues, specifically with the bolts that mount the box not lining up correctly. This second version is still being shipped.
If you have either version, this new one will be available to you, "T" says.

I guess I will wait to purchase the "ram-air scoop" to see if they will make a new one of those, preferrably one that STAYS ON and has a larger diamater tubing for more air flow.

Last week I spoke to "T" about this and he also told me that he would ship the new version and I could ship the old one back (which I have yet to install and don't plan to) after receiving the new one. I thought the "new" version he was referring to was the "2 holer". He did neglect however to tell me about building a new box mold and about the one or two month wait!

I guess this is one of those good news-bad news deals.

If anyone gets the new one from Volant, post here and let the rest of us know. With my luck, "T" will probably forget about me.

Think I'll call him tomorrow and pester him a bit. You know, make myself "memorable."

Paul:

Do you know that AEM is even going to make an intake for the Titan? I'd get one too if they did. Early on a post mentioned a group buy from AEM but since they don't make one yet. . . . .

They seem to make one for almost every late model vehicle known to man.

I guess I'll make that phone call tomorrow. Will post answer here tomorrow as well.

I don't have the ram-air add-on. Is there anything like a clip or clamp that holds it on? or does it just snap in place but not really tight?

Volant Story?

Got off the phone with "T" about an hour ago.

I called because I was supposed to have received the Volant upgraded CAI for the Titan last Wednesday 7/14.

Since it has yet to be delivered I asked what the problem was and "Oh by the Way" mentioned that I had "heard" about the new mold being made for the "correct" fit for the Titan and that it was 1-2 months away.

"T" said that they have already "upgraded" the CAI for the correct fit, that they have "the new kits out now" and the one that was shipped to me was "the new kit."

pciley, do you have any idea what's up??? Maybe you could also call and get the story straight from "T" to see what he tells you?

Those of you who have ordered the ram air scoop, "T" says they are weeks away from shipping those.

Anyone else getting a strange feeling about all of this?

hmmm... its too late tonight, maybe I can call him from work tomorrow.
I had originally called to get some type of refund because of the issues with the fitment.
He encouraged me to hold off as the ....new mold ... etc...

Another Volant Phone Call

7/21

Got a tracking number for the "upgraded" Volant CAI.

Latest on the Ram Air Scoop:

According to "T", the original ram air was designed for one style of bumper, the XE. He didn't know that there was another "style" of bumper so they had to "re-design" to fit second style.

I told "T" that there were three style levels for the Titan, the XE, SE and LE, he thought that there were only two.(???)

I'm hoping that the SE and LE front bumpers are the same and that he sends me the correct one since I informed him I had the LE.

When asked when they would be shipping the "upgraded" Ram Air Scoop, "T" said that they would be shipping "pretty quick now", whatever that means.

I'll let you know the latest whenever I have news.

Saga Continues

7/21

Well, I just checked the UPS tracking number and guess what, they are "unable" to track the number.

Phone call number 6 to Volant......

"T" confirmed that I had the correct shipping number and will be calling UPS to check what's up. He said he will get back to me in "45 minutes". (1 o'clock by my watch.)

He told me that he put the tag on it and put it in UPS' hands himself. Being curious but still trying to be nice, I asked "T" when that was? He told me "3 days ago." (Sunday?)

He had also told me on one of my prior calls (around July 5-6-7) that I was to have received it by last Wednesday, 7/14. I was on vacation during that time and had not called since that promise. I returned yesterday and since I had yet to receive the "upgraded" Volant CAI, I called to ask where it was.

Promised 7/14, given to UPS 7/19 (7/18 ?), unable to track 7/21.

Things that make you go, Hmmmmm.

Oh CAI Where Art Thou?

7/21

"T" didn't call back in 45 minutes.

At 3 o'clock, call number 7 to Volant.

"T" explained that UPS had routed my package in "the wrong direction."

It mistakenly got routed to Arizona but he got them to change the direction to my location. He also said that the tracking number is correct and that I should be able to track it after 5-6 o'clock.

Rather than getting upset, I'm finding all this improbability rather amusing in a twisted sort of way.

I didn't have the same bad luck

I spoke with T last Thursday and explained everything he probably already knew. He promised to ship a new kit that day, sans the tube and connectors as there was no change there. It arrived today with a note from T (who is the GM by the way) apologizing for the inconvenience. The kit included a new box that fits like a glove - it included properly spacing holes (1 mount, 1 drain), a correct size screw/lock washer/fender washer, an already applied gasket to seal the wheel well fit (which seals nicely), a foam pad for mounting on (minimize vibration noise I suspect) and a new filter that a: pre-oiled, b:wasn't "accordianed" and c: fit the tube like a champ - that was the most pleasant surprise after wrestling for a 1/2 last time. He also included a second filter for my troubles as well as a pre-paid UPS shipping label to return the original stuff. I still had to seal up the ram charge hole, but no biggie.

I just took it out for a spin and what a difference in both noise quality/quantity and pick-up (i'm not sure why I feel like the pick-up improved, but it feels that way to me so I'm going with it. All in all, I'm happy as they did everything they said they were going to. I hope you have the same luck with your fit (after you get it).
