I am considering removing the Banks exhaust set up and going back to stock. I think the Banks is just too loud for my taste. Has anyone felt the same way? If so, what is an estimated price to "undo" what has been done? For that matter, what to do with the Banks system after it has been removed? It’s been on for two days and only 50 miles on it. Would anyone else be able to use it? Can it be shipped? I know that since it is a bolt on everything should come off in good condition. It was installed and will be removed by a certified mechanic.
Sorry for the double post.

What I did find is that by removing the flared 5" tip, there is some loss of the "Boom" effect as the exhaust leaves. Almost like a bugle horn. Gasses come out and expand from a 4" to a 5" along that foot long tip. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom is what it sounded like at idle. I’ll try this for a day and see how I feel.
What I am noticing now is that the motor seems to "sputter" a lot. I notice it when accelerating 1/4 throttle from a stand still and from 2000 RPM to red line under hard acceleration. (I also have the K&N Air Charger) The mechanic said he never removed the negative terminal cable and said it was not necessary. I called Banks and they said it was put into the instruction manual to cover them legally. Just in case, you know, while changing your exhaust you reach into the fuse box.
I read a lot of threads discussing this issue of “resetting” the computer. Did anyone else notice the motor running slightly rough and then smoothing out over time after the exhaust mod ?

I left my neg. batt. cable off overnight with the door cracked to drain the battery for sure.... Didn't start it up before that, but runs great with no sputtering.
Also, if your Banks is fresh, give it a couple of thousand miles to seat and brake-in and it will sound better. I have about 2500 miles on my Banks and it sounds VERY different from the day after I installed.
Fluttering could be a leak. Get under your truck and check the connections. Look for dark areas at joints, or use 2 feet of vacuum hose, one end close to the ear (not in it), and move the other end around the joints with the engine running. You can listen for leaks.
I always disc. my batt when installing aftermarket products to give the computer a chance to re-learn the upgrade..chances are it will do it anyway, but I know it will if I take this step.i am sure you will easily sell the Banks kit do someone, since it is a really nice system.Sound is subjective to everyone and I personally think mine sounds great
I would recommend that you live with for a couple of tanks of gas. My Flowmaster 70 is definitely quieter after the first tank, and seems to have mellowed somewhat. Don't have a clue if that's due to the ECU 'learning', bu I doubt it. I did not disconnect, and no sputtering either before or after the new exhaust, just lots of nice audio.
Just to confirm, the one Banks that I heard was too loud for my taste.

There should not be any sputtering with the change to a Banks. No one else has mentioned that as a problem and there have been many who have put the Banks on their trucks and some that have removed it as well.
Get it checked out.

Thank you for all who have replied. This is where I am at...
1) Service Engine Soon light and AT Engine come on when key is in the ignition.
2) ...light goes off when engine starts.
3) Both vacuum hoses are hooked up securely to K&N Air Charger and all clamps tight.
4) Mass Air sensor is secure.
5) Heat shield is properly secured to exhaust and all wires near it are in tact.
6) O2 sensor looks to be ok.
7) No welding was done.
8) Ground wire is secure from exhaust to frame.
9) Engine idles perfect and is very responsive in park of neutral.
10) Symptoms only appear under load (acceleration)
Not too sure if trouble codes would come up if the Check Engine light is not lit. The air box was great with no problems for several hundred miles. The exhaust was fine too but for about 100 miles. The problem is more sever at times then other.
