Hi all, I did a search on Throttle and saw the thread on tire spin. I'm trying to do the opposite. Is there any way to tone down the throttle response? My father drives the truck every now and then (we bought it together) and at his age, he just can't prevent the truck from taking off too quickly. With so much power the truck just picks up speed to quickly. Its got him so nervous that he doesn't want to drive it anymore.
I'm assuming that the drive by wire/computer chip controls this and unless I can get a new chip, I'm SOL.
Have him press from the bottom of the pedal as opposed to the middle or top. It acts like a lever-arm, so if you move 1 inch at the bottom you will get much less accel than if you move 1 inch at the top.

I didn't mention before that he had a mild stroke not long ago. As it stands now, we are probably going to prevent him from driving at all. We don't want him or anyone else to get hurt. Its a shame because we bought the truck together and both were very excited at the time. Its a very nice vehicle but a lot of the positives (power, capability, size) go against his abilities.
Maybe I've gotten spoiled with my Tundra, but I agree with mchinna. I can get very smooth starts with the Toyota, but with my Titan, I have to really think about how slowly to press the pedal to get a smooth start. Sometimes lurching off the line is fun, but usually, my wife and I just want a smooth ride.
