Headers were easy to install?
I am not worried about the welding, not an issue... but 4wheel Parts is telling me 4 hours... they are professionals. They said they would need to take the wheels off with the front end off the ground, and disassemble a BUNCH of stuff just to get all the bolts off the manifolds.
Is that accurate???

Pciley - Not easy to install. The headers are accessed through the wheel wells, space is very tight. The engine needed to be jacked up about 1.5" to remove old and install new. The oem heat shields are not put back on as they mounted to the oem manafolds, I think. Are they still needed, I really don't know. I seem to remember reading or hearing that the ceramic coating (which I have) handles heat better. I guess I'm trusting that JBA has adequatly determined that they are not needed.

Welding FYI: there is a smog (?) component welded to the outlet of the oem manafold. This part is cut off of the manifold and welded to the outlet of the JBA's. This might mean that there is no going back and reinstalling the oem manfolds - you may be stuck buying new ones.

If 4 Wheel Parts is telling you 4 hours, I would politely smile and ask if thats a firm quote for the labor! My 4WP took a day and a half, but it was their first Titan. I suppose 4 hours is possible with a lot of practice.

Worth noting: Within 2 miles of leaving 4WP shop my check engine light came on. (I did not have my K&N CAI installed at that time!) I reset the computer by disconecting the battery overnight 3 times, and the warning light continues to come on. 4WP called JBA after a shop inspection and JBA says probobable bad o2 sensor, possibly damaged durring installation (?). 4WP is buying a new o2 sensor and I'm currently waiting for it to come in. To be contnued...

I spoke to another forum member who had JBA headers installed; his installer commented that the instalation was 'brutal' but it was accomplished.

Hope this helps.

about the heat shields.....

you could always get some header wrap, it's good stuff to have anyway, keeps underhood temps down.

about the check engine light....

i can almost guarantee it is the o2 sensors, take them out and spray them down with some throttle body cleaner (make sure it is o2 sensor safe, it'll say right on the bottle) and reinstall using anti-seaze. let the ecu reset and it should be ok. if not, might need some new o2's.

Thanks Platinum - I'm wondering if this spray can be purchased at my local auto parts store... I'd like to try this myself.

Wow, thanks for the header install info. I was NOT aware of having to jack the engine up, no one else has said that, no shops indicated that (of 3 I visited, only one had put headers on a Titan).

About the "smog component" Ken Rauch, I was going to keep the stock manifold in tacked, just take the whole thing off with the cat un cut and replace with headers and straight pipes down to the resonator sections (which have already been replaced with 3" pipes). I was hoping to be able to reinstall the stock components, in tacked, every two years for smog or in the event of a major dealership visit under warranty.
If the install takes over 4 hours, I might just forgo the headers until a different option surfaces. Would hate to get the headers on and have some minor warranty issue and have to spend a whole day getting things back together.

Pciley - yer welcome. It could be that some installers have figured out a way to do it without lifting the engine, 4WP followed the instructions (destructions) that came with the headers.

Question about your Daystar lift. I'm reading that some people are getting them with 1" blocks for the rear as well (included in kit). Did you get those blocks or just the front spacers?

even if you got blocks you should throw them away. AALs are a decent alternative, but shackles would be much better. Of course the best is some custom leaf packs, but shackles (around $20-40) will keep stock ride quality and provide good lift. Blocks maintain stock ride quality too, but are known to break and that has catastrophic results!
