Flowmaster 40 series installed

Well, i sold some car stereo stuff i had lying around today and i decided to reward myself with a dual exhaust. i went with a single in/dual out 40 series flowmaster...i was hesitant, but i was told by 4 shops to go that route until you are no longer naturally aspirated bc otherwise its a waste.

it cost a little under for 400 installation, pipes, rolled tips (which are killer btw) and the muffler.

now the good part. as soon as i picked up and turned the key, WOW!
the sound the truck makes can only be called beastly! its really deep and aggressive. it is loud, and i can see how it would be too loud for some, but for me, its perfect. i prefer powerful sounding exhausts, so i love it.

there is a small gain up top, but more importantly there isnt any loss of torque that i can tell. i am going to reset the computer tonight (btw, how do you do it?) and then see what happens.

i recommend this setup to anyone who wants a deep exhaust that is loud and aggressive.

To reset your comp, simply detach the negative lead from the battery terminal and let it sit. You can turn on the lights to help drain it quicker, but letting it sit overnight will be a sure way.

To piggy back off of what Sammy said, per the ESM leave the "-" off for 24hrs which will clear everything out of the ECU.

Is that the new "Super 40" or the old 40's? And is there any way possible you can get some sound clips up?

HoustonTitan,
I am glad you like the 40 series. I had the 40 series (y-pipe single in, dual out) oringinally installed, and it was just too much for me. Nice aggressive sound at start-up, but drone during highway speeds intruded into the cabin to the point of giving me a headache. Bad drone between 65 and 80 MPH; drone was present most of the time. Drowned out stereo and conversation.

BUT - it DID feel like a hotrod. Just not for me. So, after a chat with the infamous Sammy, instead of ditching it, I switched over to a 70 Series. Absolutely LOVE it - Same great sound at start-up, but none of that drone or roar in the cabin - BETTER than stock, in that it sounds great outside, but is much quieter at highway speeds and none of the stock muffler drone at 1500 t0 2000 rpm.

If there is a difference in performance, it is subtle, with a bit of increased power. I have noticed a bit more torque at lower speeds, and of course the incredible neck snapping at 4000 rpm - I don't make it a practice to drive it that hard, in the 4000 range, but with the nice sound, it sure is hard not to drive like Hell most of the time.

Any change in exhaust system will not yeild a significant change in performance, but the look of the rolled dual exhaust tips slanting past my tires and the great Flowmaster sound make driving the TITAN that much more enjoyable. Flowmaster system is an excellent choice...

Hey Sammy,
If I do not detach the negative lead from the battery terminal, approximately how long will it take for the ECU to adust/reset?

I had 70 series Flowmasters installed too, and love the sound. You and Tiger Titan sold me on the idea. Love the "70's sound" and none of the irritating resonance of the stock system. Thanks a bunch...

That's been discussed quite a bit and seems to be debatable. The thing is that it's not reseting if you do that, it's just adjusting from the current maps it's running. So I'd say a couple hundred miles, be sure and operate at all throttle positions. I'm not expert on ecu's, so someone else can probably provide better information.

Last Monday I had the 70 series Flomaster 2 1/2 dual in dual out installed. The tips are routed in the same location as stock, but facing straight out to alert all hemi's I pass. I disconnected the battery for a few hours and it seamed that within 500 miles the computer had adjusted for the new exhaust flow. I notice a big change in the transmission shift pattern. It does not need to shift down as quickly as before. The big gain that I notice is above 5000 rpm. It used to slow down after 5400, now it rips to the feul cut off. Monday I have a sceduled race with my boss who drives a 2003 2500 hemi quad cab 4x4. I plan on video taping the race from my truck. We will both have 5 people on board so weight will be similar.

disconnecting the battery is prolly not the greatest idea. You lose fuel maps and all your user data. Having worked with tuning ecus, I have never seen an ecu adjust quicker after a reset than having just let it do its thing. In some instances, you could prolong the process.

I would recommend not resetting the ECU or clearing any maps... just let the computer do what it was designed to do -- which is constant logging of information and finite adjustment based on trends. All that resetting the ECU will do is revert to the factory maps which tend to err on the "safe" side, and not the "performance" end of things.

I put 40 series delta flows on last week myself. Ran 2.5" pipe all the way and used an x pipe. The two delta flows sound very good, just a very deep rumble. Seems pretty quiet to me once you are running along at speed.

Power seems to be very good, its almost annoying to drive the truck in the rain now cause all it does is spin. It would spin before but not by accident like it will now. Was worried since i went to 2.5" that i might lose low end but it really seems to have gained.

Overall sound I would say is about 30% louder then stock once stock muffler heated up, and about 50% deeper note. If you listen to the guys clip with the 50series its about identical except deeper. Cost was 470.00 with 3.5" black stainless tips.

When I had my flowmaster 40 installed, single 3" in with dual 2.5" out. I did not have to reset the computer. It ran OK. It idled a little high, around 1100 rpms, at first, but settle after about 50 miles.
