A new exhaust configuration!!

Well thanks to Pciley and Jettech I happened on to a new exhaust combo that seems to be very good. Heres what I did:
Starting at just before where the pipe shrinks in front of stock resonators, I increased all pipe to 2.5. This runs to a magnaflow 5x11 dual 2.5 in 2.5 out. The 2.5 pipes then goes back to rear with 3.5 rolled tips.
First impressions, a very good sound at normal driving. The sound WILL talk when I layed on gas hard so that is a nice option . But at normal driving, a pleasant rumble. To give idea of sound inside cab. At 65 mph, the stereo set at 14 on volume, you cant hear exhaust. There is a very small drone at 60mph but not obnoxious. Increase speed to 65 and it disappears. Low end seems to have picked up some according to butt dyno, hopefully I will find a local dyno and get some real numbers soon. Here is some pics:

Thanks Dale. The guy who did the install said it was by far one of the better sounding trucks he has done in a while. He said the Titan has a "start-up" bark like no other he has heard.

Hey what is the tube coming out of the pipe in the middle pic?

Are you referring to the pics of the o2 sensors? If you look under your truck you will see your 02 sensors just before the resonators and you will notice that just before the resonators the pipe diameter drops!. Now compare that to my pic and you will see I cut the resonators but left 02 sensors alone. All pipe after that weld in that pic is 2.5. Is this what you are referring to?

No H or X pipe. Any reason why? I thought they were better for scavenging...

Nice job, Mike. My neighbors have commented on the 'startup' too!! I love it.

Thanks for the report, look forward to the dyno numbers.

I guess the easiest way to explain it is that each side of the engine fires alternatively, with an H or X pipe the higher pressure exhaust will move to areas of low pressure. Hence with an H or X pipe it moves to the pipe that has the least amount of pressure. This allows more freeflow in the exhaust or better removal (scavenging).

BTW Mikez, I am going to use your pics to get my system installed. OK?

No problem, I think you will be very happy. I took a 30 minute ride tonite and there is DEFINETLY more power especially in the 40-70mph range. The butt dyno dont lie but I will get some real numbers soon. I am sure most of this gain was with the pipe enlargement, thanks again to Pciley and JetTech. The sound is just icing on cake.

Nice install Mike! Clean welds, everything down there looks great!
I especially like the dual tips out the rear! Not too long, not too short, not too big, JUST RIGHT!

The only concerns I have is for the resonators ONLY. You are still running a small diamater pipe where the flanges are, before the O2 bungs. drops to about 1.5 inches or so. Its hard to see what's under the heat shield, but even the bends are pretty restrictive. You might consider upgrading the whole section where the resonators where JUST to illiminate the "weakest link" where those pipes cinch down. This is what Jet and I were trying to achieve.

You have a hell of a nice exhaust system there, and more courage than I have. I would have been to affraid of cutting the OEM Resonators and not having them to reinstall later, that is me being a smog/warranty woosie! Some one has to jump out there some time. Great Job!

Thanks Paul. We looked at and saw where the pipe drops in diameter right before resonator so decided to start there, it definetly makes a difference. Sounds like I might could have gotten even more power if I went further. I still have resonators and what was behind it.muffler guy said he can get whole system back on in a jiffy if needed. I felt a little better about not touching O2's at all but who knows. I might get some dyno numbers as is since I know it gained and then go ahead and replace the pipe with o2 and re-dyno, would be interesting. He said he would do the straight pipes with bungs for another 45bucks. Good deal. Thanks again for the help!!

AWESOME Deal! $45 is a VERY good price. I would think you'd get a little more out of losing that first cinch-down in the pipe, just after the first flange after the Cat section, the part that was in front of the resonator. I see it in your picture. I really hope if you go to the dealership with the "fixed" (or rewelded) resonators at a later date that they DONT try to screw you on the warranty when they see the pipes had been cut and welded... Maybe you can make up some story, like "That's how it was when I bought it.. " or sumthin like that.

I was not ballzy enough to cut the resonators, I thought to my self, "Self, if I have to buy another set of resonators to stay under warranty, that's gonna cost alot of $$$ from NIssan parts dept."

Well, NOW you are all set for a Supercharger with the TRUE DUAL EXHAUST.

That's probably alot more flow than we have with the Banks single out kit, even though its a hi-flow design with 3" piping, still doesn't come close to dual 2.5".
