Dragstrip results for Banks

Weather was miserable. 97 degrees when I first started running and when I left it was still 90 degrees at 8PM. Ugh. Anyway - here's the beef.

From the last round of tests with the K&N drop-in and the stock exhaust for a baseline:
1/8 mi = 9.85@71.83
1/4 mi = 15.30@90.57

With the addition of the Banks - same weight (within 20#), same octane (89), a little worse weather conditions, and 5 runs to average (there were lots of broken cars and clean-ups required):
9.81@72.40
15.20@91.45

I tried the stock air filter too for 4 runs and averaged:
9.80@72.30
15.21@91.07

Best run of the night was with the K&N in and is in my signature (previous best was 15.15@90.8). I'm looking into the resonator delete but I'm not wanting any more noise than the Banks is putting out. I'm really considering 3" cats and 3" pipe similar to what Pciley did with the Banks flanges and so forth.

I really think there might be .05secs and maybe .5mph more if I'd a had similar weather when I made the K&N baselines with the stock exhaust but that is pure speculation. I plugged in various HP calculators and it amounted to 7-8hp gain with the Banks.

Your mileage may vary. I plan on running it again for more data points and hopefully the TX heat will lessen a bit.

Head,
Thanks for posting the results! My Titan likely will never see a dragstrip, but the info you guys are reporting is much appreciated, nonetheless.
From your sig, looks like you've got the high-ratio gears?

Hope Houston cools off soon, 'cause us DFW folks could use cooler too!

Try 17" offroads

the head, good times! Are you still planning to Track down some smaller, lighter wheels, and smaller tires-bet you could get .1 with just that?
What does your computer say 15.15 would be equal to at 50 degrees and 35% humidity?Might have a day like that in Nov?Under 15??Luck,Charlie

Yeah I would like some lighter wheels with shorter tires to improve the overall gearing. Main thing I'm looking at is $500 spent to get 0.1sec/1mph in the 1/4 mile so I think with the "short tube" mod the exhaust would actually gain something. More to come.

I forgot to mention that the a/f gauge I put in was reading rich all the way through every run - just like you would expect it to be. So my idiot light says that the Banks and drop-in K&N isn't leaning out the engine.

I need to get one of those head, where can I get one at? By the way I ordered one of the cables yesterday and the software for my laptop to be able to read all kinds of parameters. Now that's going to be a toy I'll have a hard time putting down for a while..

I went to www.summitracing.com
They have a Summit brand gauge (it's really a cyberdyne unit - at least, it looks just like it). I ran the wire to the O2 sensor through the grommet where the hood release cable penetrates the firewall and then spliced into the stock wiring at the harness by the tranny. It's just one wire. I also got a package of the Auto Meter offset gauge rings so it would tilt up towards me. I put the gauge in the hole where the 4x4 switch goes since I only have a 2WD.

I don't know if you'd want to mix two brands together w/ the exhaust, but one option for the resonator delte would be to order some 4" sound Magnaflow mufflers, and install them right where the old ones were if possible. The other option would be to dlete them, and I imagine the Banks kit is si? If so, you could install one right between the y pipe and muffler, and not have to worry about gaining too much sound. Magnaflow highly reccomends running the 4" round for a resonator if your exhaust is too loud. I'd say that's your solution right there!

Let me figure out how to post them. I can easily scan them and email them to you in the meantime if you want (or anyone else).
