Replace resonators with straight pipes, stock exhaust?

In reading the cool mods that are being done, I'm wondering if anyone did the res/cat replacement with straight pipes on a stock exhaust, and if it caused positive gains.. also wonder what it does for emmisions, sound, and warranty.

I would think the 2 cats would be plenty... I would like a little more juice, but not that much more noise. This looks like a cheap and easy upgrade (that my local muffler shop would do of course).

Any thoughts or experiences? Especially with warranty and noise levels.

No ideas, thoughts, hypothesis? If it wouldn't void the warrenty, I'd try it. I know there are local muffler shops that would do it. Why do we need 4 cats anyhow? Or resonators? What are their purpose (resonators that is).

Resonators are to help reduce the exhaust sound, basically mini mufflers. The two CAT's up front are pre-CAT's designed to heat up faster than the main CATs and burn off any stuff at start up and continue to help burn up crap while the main CAT's are warming up. You might notice a little increase with replacing them but I would think you would be better off just swapping out the muffler first.

Well, it seems people have real noticable gains with this.. since the 2nd set of cats/resonators shrink down at their necks...

Don't want the sound of aftermarket pipes.. And the stocker is pretty good. Just looking for small things that a guy can do. I'll probably forget about it.

Yes, there are gains but since the resonators are of straight thru design with only a reduction in the diameter of the pipe they are less likely to be as restrictive as the muffler I would think.

ever seen the collector on a header? basically, when you expand those pipes to 3 inch you are adding in a nice big collector that gives a lot of room for all those hot gases and reduces backpressure a great deal. that is why it is working. juma

I have the cats, not the resonators, though. The conical ones. Not the mini-mufflers.
