Does Manual Shifting Stress the Trans ?

Will shifting the Titan manually put a strain on the transmission?

For some reason when accelerating with 1/2 throttle the transmission automatically shifts into 2nd gear prematurely and stays there until it slowly climbs into the 3500 RPM range where it then shifts into second. It would seem to me that if 1/2 throttle is applied the transmission should stay in first gear a bit longer. (Damn computer trying to decide when to shift via fly by wire) When shifting manually, you can accelerate smoothly in first and then through second. Pickup is much better but I worry about the additional strain on the transmission. Just to let you know, I am not winding out each gear but manually shifting at around 2800 RPM.

I don't see where it would hurt anything. Wear on the tranny is when it is shifting under a high load so just bopping along at whatever rpm and then shifting shouldn't do anything, IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, won't the computer over-ride the manual
shift if you over-rev the transmission?

No. You can rev the engine right up to a point where it bounces off the rev limiter, and if you have it in something other that regular drive it will not upshift.

I'm of the opinion that the 5-speed Titan tranny was designed as a manual shift automatic. If you are not abusing the tranny I don't see where a bit of smooth shifting is going to strain it.
