I was at a repair shop over the weekend to diagnose my undercarriage click - they could not determine what is causing the issue (I'll post another thread on that)
I also pointed out an exhaust leak at the muffler joint thinking it was just a gasket. He had me move the tailpipe up and down and noticed that it is rusted out in several places and has to be replaced from the cat back.
He has been unable to find an OEM replacement so I am thinking aftermarket.
Can anyone tell me of a cat back exhaust that fits these constraints?:
1) quiet to slightly louder than stock
2) ZERO drone
3) No dash lights
4) real stainless steel (mine rusted out at 65k)
Ideally I would like to install it myself so looking for a bolt on if that's possible.
Thanks!
Ps: I have an Armada but I am pretty sure the exhausts are the same on both trucks
Thanks for the link. I looked at that before and there was a bunch of confusing information and products I have not heard of before as well as posts mixing and matching parts.
I'll take another look but if there is one clear winner let me know!
It sounds like the jba catback would be perfect for you. From what I have read and heard its a little bit louder than stock, but not much and gives you a deeper tone. Plus its the best priced catback and is 304 stainless. You can get it for $335 shipped through autoanything using there current promo. so if you want it you better act quick lol.

I read the reviews on it and some say it is too quiet (ok for me) whereas others say it is too loud? Sound is so subjective but basically I am looking for something that doesn't make me hate it when I want quiet in the cabin.

I really think you will like the JBA. It has a nice deep mellow tone that is not overwhelming. It is only loud when you go with headers and catless bpipes then you can re-tame it and have performance too with the Ultraquite resonator. You cant beat the price of it for sure!!

As much as I love the sound of a loud exhaust, I am very concerned about how it sounds in the cabin. Every other week I do a 320 mile round trip and if my stereo was competing with the exhaust I think I would go nuts.
Here is a clip of it that I found...sounds loud, no?
Mine is totally catless with headers and the ultraquite and its not much louder than stock in top gear on the highway. You will not find a much tamer but good sounding exhaust IMO. You still have the primary cats I assume so it will be just about right and if its too quite for you add a set of catless Cajuns.

Niteowl,
Thanks for the input. So you have the JBA?
The one concern I have is the lack of a resonator on this one. How much is the ultraquiet? Can I assume that it would have to be welded in place? My cats are staying (New York).
Is there any drone, lights, or rasp?

I'm catless with zero drone or cis with the JBA but it does have a touch of rasp while the pipes are still cold. Rasp is gone once warmed up. If you plan on leaving the cats you most likely will not need the UQ. Anyway, the UQ can be clamped or welded in and cost about $85 off amazon.com.
Ok I'm gonna take a chance on this. I figure I will order it now, clamp it during install and live with it for a week. If it is too loud, I will get the UQ resonator. If I hate it that bad, I will sell it here
I looked at the OEM exhaust and it would run about about $350 more from online. I like the fact of getting what I have (no issues with drone or rasp or anything) but I figure it will just rust out again and I don' t have the possibility of a nicer growl.
Sure hope this isn't an expensive mistake.....

The JBA and Gibson are the closet you will find to stock without being stock yet still have a nice growl. I think you will be happy..
