How do you get around emissions in CA?

I need an exhaust upgrade badly so how do people have LTs and go catless in California? I thought about shorties with catless b pipes that I could swap out for the stock ones if needed. Also could I get away with LTs with just a bdgt for a while or is uprev the only way to go? I might just stick with the jba shorties but I'm checking out my options here. Thanks
Oh and I prefer it on the louder side if anyone is wondering

Find a shady smog shop and give them some extra cash.

How do you get around emissions in CA?

I've heard of alot of trucks passing without cats just shells. I'm in pa so I don't have to deal with that, that's just what I've been reading.

Re: How do you get around emissions in CA?

When I owned my gross polluter car I took it to a slightly shady shop and paid the X amount of money extra and somehow they passed it for me. It was trial and error with shops. I had to go to like 5 different ones before I found the truly shady one lol. You kinda feel like a scum bag asking around like that but its worth the trouble in the end.

Re: How do you get around emissions in CA?

you need a smog hookup...going rate is usually 300.00 for a passing smog

But what about now with the new smog program? No more tailpipe test, but the new "star" stations.

It will be GREAT but now they will take their time and look for CARB numbers for EVERYTHING installed on the vehicle.

Best bet is buy JBA 50 State Legal Shorties and remain legal and make 10rwhp less then the rest. You could pull a sub box and make up 10rwhp if you were racing a guy with LT'S.

Re: How do you get around emissions in CA?

funny, everytime I got smogged before they never paid attention to anything. i remember I didnt have a carb sticker on my AEM when I still had it (was an early version before it was officially approved), and they never asked me for documentation or anything. Never even looked at the exhaust except to find the pipe (which is hard since it is dumped, which you would think would raise a flag). Guess I was just lucky.

WHen you guys get smogged do they actively look for that stuff?

How do you get around emissions in CA?

I still have a long way to get long tubes, but anyways whenever I get mine smoged they never look at the exhaust at all. They just put the thing on the tail pipe.

How do you get around emissions in CA?

And are secondary cats required by California emissions or just the ones that come off the manifold?
