Man I love this truck!!!
A question about your signature:

The 15.34 and 95.0 mph do not seem to match up. Typical trap mph for that time would be more like 90. I would think you would have to get seriously down into the 14's to get a 95 mph trap speed. Is there a typo there? I realize you have some mods that might get you down to 15.0 or even 14.9 with the right track conditions, but mph would still only be maybe 91-12 or so. And those 22 inch wheels are real speed and time killers.

Could you please explain?

No whine before or after for me, either.

I never did hear the Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa, either. and now, with the magnaflow muffler, all I hear is the exhaust, and I love it.

Snorkle mod, K&N filter and 12256 Magnaflow is the cheapest way to get close to CAI and full exhaust. under $200 if you shop around. Big, big difference. sounds great and feels great. Oh, and the 2 degree advance. I am exceedingly pleased.

As to why Nissan doesn't do these simple things - I'm sure it is the noise. Definitely a head-turner. Even the guys up at my dealer were impressed when I told them how cheap this could be done. A couple of the techs are now friends, and do my consult work free - couldn't be better.

If you live near Blue Springs, MO, and need the 2 degree advance - PM me and I'll try to get you in free...

Thanks, guys, for all your suggestions. Saved me big money!!!

ITS A LOUD GROWL and its raspy!

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I had a spare 10 minutes yesterday afternoon and did this mod. I've driven around all day today and I don't think it did too much as for hp or lbs. But it does sound mean, kinda like a nascar motor. I have the Magnaflow cat back and a K&N dropin. If you like the growl this is a no brainer mod.

Thumbs up Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

i did the red hot knife trick and it worked well othere that when i slid the knife strait down the snorkel i got to close to the edge of the box and cut off the lower snorkel tab. but its still in there solid as a rock i still couldnt get it out w/ one tab. i cant tell if there is an increase in power yet. ill have to race my buddies tundra to tell. it does give a mean sound though. i wish the groan of the intake was a little deeper though. not bad or a free mod.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I did ECU resets after the muffler. But, shailey says he doesn't ever do one. Guess the ECU will learn the new setup eventually whichever way you go. But, I had SES light on WOT, and the reset took care of it. When I went to the dealer the next day for a TPMS reset, there were no codes at all.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Well I just finished doing this mod and testing it. I can't really feel much of any difference, but it sure sounds cool at anything over 3k rpm. Best 0$ I ever spent. Well, actually it cost me $35 since I bought the K&N drop in.

LOL - my last tank, I'm up to 10 mpg -- too much fun!!!

harbrown -- don't forget a good, high-flow air filter. and 2-degree timing advance. I definitely notice the difference -- my foot is twice as heavy!!! LOL!!!

I'm afraid I'm not going to get much more till an UpRev tune. An Injen may make some difference, and I could do full exhaust instead of just the Magnaflow muffler, but I can feel flat spots off line under WOT. So, I think I am ECU limited right now -- but that is better than being intake / exhaust limited, IMO.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

There seems to be an increase in performance. I love it. Now I gotta get that filter... only 2k miles on my truck and the factory filter looked burnt in that corner ewwwwwwwww

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod - Hot Knife Method

Went out today with my propane torch and an old Ginsu utility knive, and cleaned up my mod (it was messy and incomplete from using a jig saw). sooooo easy. in place. took five minutes to cut a nice, curved cut from about 1/2" from box at top to about 1/8" inside of tab at bottom. Definitely the way to go...

Question Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Can someone confirm.... to reset the ecu, all I have to do is unplug my battery for 10 hours and then hook it back it up? I thought there was some sequence of steps to do it.
