Don't knock it until you try it. There is more than one person on here with automotive experience. Even minimal gain is good for the whopping price tag of "free".

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I did this mod the other day, it took 10 or 15 minutes. My truck is loud enough with the flowmaster exhaust that I still can't hear the intake. I am not sure if I can feel a difference in power but it was fun doing the mod.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Just finished the free mod....intake noise is definitely noticeable now. Reminds me of the good ol' days when we punks would invert the air cleaner lid to hear the Q-jet carb howl under load.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Finally did the airbox mod yesterday! Don't know if i gained any power, but i like the sound!

I wasn't sure if i was going to do it, untill i pulled the filter and saw all the dirt gathered in the one corner and decided at minimal it will help the filter to last longer!

Next is the K&N!

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I like those electrical engineering references in there, being an electrical engineer myself, lol. I think I will do this mod this weekend if the weather warms up around here.

Lightbulb Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

WOW. Great info. I am a new owner of and 06 CC and have been looking at a CAI and had a parts guy tell me to buy a K & N filter 3 hp differenced in it and the CAI. I saw the dirty lower area of the filter and thought about cutting the snorkel off. I think you have then built your on CAI? Anyone done it yet? I am looking at duels and want to be cautious of sound. Do you think that this change will increase sound as well?

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Did mine today with a hot knife and cleaned it up with my dremel, and I would swear it helps. I really like the growl now and it's something I can definately hear over my flowmaster, pretty cool. Im in the middle of a custom tonneau with color matched vinyl will post pics when done.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I'll second that. Here's the rules:

Your signature image size is limited to 300 pixels in width by 200 pixels in height. To determine your image's dimensions, simply right click over the image and view its properties. We are slightly flexible with this rule, for example a 310x205px image is acceptable. The moderators will help you determine if your image size is appropriate.

It's just courtesy to have it within those limits so that the other members don't have to scroll past those huge sig pics.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I'm new here but I've been lurking for a few weeks. I was about to rig up a cold air intake when I ran into this article. I immediately tried it after reading all the pages....ugh. I also ran to autozone and picked up the flat k&n. I don't notice any difference at all. It sounds the same to me, and no difference in power that I can tell. The sound issue could be because I can't hear it over my exhaust however. But hey, at least my filter will thank me. Wonder if I should disconnect my battery for 10 hrs? Is it as simple as disconnecting and reconnecting or will I need a security code for my stereo, etc? I ran into that problem with my honda. Will a computer reset make a difference? I never did it after my exhaust either and it's been a couple hundred miles. Thanks

From what I have heard on here, unless the check engine light comes on, you do n ot need to reset the computer.....correct me if I am wrong.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Search ECU reset and use that procedure instead. Much faster and easier than disconnecting the battery.
